    Pros

Great support of the student workers.

    Cons

Not enough awareness of the challenges students face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

The students are incredibly intelligent and the best part of working here. They are feisty but it keeps things interesting.
The administration isn't as wonky as other colleges I've worked at, but there are a few characters.

    Cons

It's higher ed so the same old problems persist here. Faculty reign supreme and go a bit crazy sometimes.
Pay isn't what it should be, especially for admin staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually try to appreciate your staff. The silly awards and bad food doesn't do enough once a year. Offering discounts at the marketplace would be a start. Better yearly raises. More opportunity for growth.

    Pros

Very pleasant, collegial work environment. Interesting and intelligent staff and students. High-level technology, systems and facilities. Access to campus facilities (fitness center, dining services, theater, etc.) and activities (reading groups, lectures, choir, etc.)

    Cons

Training was adequate, but could be greater emphasis on employee development. Because of the relatively small size of the college, and the general satisfaction/loyalty of staff, there is low staff turnover, and thus not many options for movement/growth within the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training was adequate, but could be greater emphasis on employee development.

    Pros

Easy system grading for Dr. J. He's very reasonable and it was use grading as a form of review.

    Cons

Around finals there were very strict deadlines. The homework had to be turned around in about two days, which interfered with studying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, Dr. J is a great guy to work for.

    Pros

You will get student contact and lots of it if that's what you want. You have an opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities as a professional and collaborate across functional areas as much as you can imagine. Things can change quickly on campus because of the small nature of the organization.

    Cons

Because of a slim staffing structure in many areas, folks are stretched thin. This makes for a somewhat jaded workforce. Since you are given so many opportunities across functional areas, it may be difficult to focus on your actual job. In some areas of campus, pay is not comparable to the work that is done as many sets of job responsibilities have been combined into one position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Truly review job descriptions and reorganize so that they make sense and/or compensate the staff so that their pay reflects the amount/level of work that they do.

    Pros

The department makes an effort to compensate its student workers fairly. I acknowledge it must be difficult to make a decision that is fair for all, as the RA compensation affects the financial aid package of most of student employees. I really got to know the campus geography and personnel well through this job. It is also a great way to get to know people you otherwise wouldn't.

    Cons

The programming requirements are inconsistent (change every 6 - 12 months) and in general are too much to do and still succeed with school work. I did encounter some dismissal of RA ideas by upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the department could do with more staff and more flexible guidelines for RAs. However, the work environment there changes with the staff, so it could be different now.
