    Pros

Very good benefit package, at least what is expected at a med to large corp. Comfortable working environment and up to date systems. 9/80 schedule offered with Friday off.

    Cons

Stiff culture, at least in Houston office, cannot speak for other locations. Work/life balance is questionable. Commute is not the best due to limited options, terrible traffic due to proximity to Galleria, Hwy 59 & loop 610 interchange.

    Advice to Management

Be willing to listen to your employees first and gather all the facts before forming judgement. Be willing to acknowledge need for process improvements.

    Pros

Excellent benefits, nice offices (Houston), every other Friday off; well managed IT and business processes; many nice people caught in a cold environment.

    Cons

Strained, old-school management styles across the corporate functions; in transition, lots of change but not much agility; rigid adherence to process (almost ridiculous) and fear of innovation, new approaches, suggestions to improve processes, etc. Not a casual work environment - had to dress up every day, as boss was oh-so chic and GQ (LA). Had to work over my Xmas holiday (5 days) because boss needed something -- 6 weeks in advance. This is not a normal oil company.

    Advice to Management

Relax and enjoy Houston, you're not in LA any more!

    Pros

Nice people. Decent Benefits. Flexible schedule. Management that I have worked with is approachable and understanding.

    Cons

They only value their engineers and geologists, they don't show real value to those in support positions. Not a steady place to work. There are lots of reorganizations and uncertainty.

    Pros

Benefits are great, offices are nice besides trying to get down Richmond, 9/80 schedule.

    Cons

Always changing direction, multiple changes in management and personnel, compensation was on the lower end compaired to other Oil & Gas companies, but HR would say that is not so. Bonuses for Techs are on a completely different (lower level) than any other position.

    Advice to Management

Motivation was needed, especially during a time when an announcement went out with NO WARNING that our business unit was being sold. It was perfectly timed on the employees Friday off so everyone was in complete chaos on Monday. Hopefully they figured it out after that one.

    Pros

liked the independence of picking what to work on. People were nice

    Cons

working extra gets you no where but frustrated. Young people are not promoted due to age. Could not talk to people in the office for fear of being labeled as a talker.

    Pros

IT intern are given meaningful projects to work on. The projects are based on current business needs and the solutions are given serious consideration by management. Interns are provided with access to the tools required to perform their assigned projects.

    Cons

The internship program is really geared toward recruiting and retaining engineers. IT interns seem to be more disposable.

    Advice to Management

Invite IT interns back, engineers are not the only critical human resource.

    Pros

    Good benefits. That's about all.

    Cons

Management exploits employees. They do not properly compensate when moving to more senior roles. Too much red tape.
