    Advice to ManagementAdvice

some upper managers are too busy not allowing them to really be involved in the work and day-to-day creating stressed, out of touch people

    Pros

As anyone who has spent time in the advertising industry knows, the way the agencies usually work is they work you to the bone - long hours, long weekends, endless hours filling out timesheets, and so on. This isn't the case as Ocean Media. The owner and executive team really focus on taking care of their employees. Whether it is half-day Fridays during the summer, catered lunches, or public speaking workshops - employees come first at Ocean Media.

    Cons

Like any agency, clients can sometimes be a challenge. Also, the constant availability of food, soft drinks, and other temptations don't make it easy to stay on any kind of a diet.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to expand the agency's offerings in new directions.

    I worked at Ocean Media

    Pros

This is generally a good place to work, typical of many ad agencies: friendly, fun people; laid-back (but professional) culture. They have a great niche in the market. Also, good compensation for strong performers - they want to keep them.

    Cons

They have a core strength, but other parts of the organization are much weaker - to the point of it being an issue. The business model is very narrow (but it's very profitable, and should be reliable for a few years yet.) The owner and founder is best avoided and often makes inappropriate remarks, particularly to female employees.

I worked at Ocean Media full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Privately owned efficient company. Intelligent/fun people. Great work perks (Lakers tickets, Dodgers tickets, casual dress every day, half days, catered lunches). Management treats you like family(especially Mike and Ron the CEO's). Mike once told me, "your life should be the one you lead outside of work."

    Cons

The pay is generally below industry average. A few people are in positions that shouldn't be there because of favoritism and/or nepotism. No 401k matching.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay a little more and turnover won't be so high!

I have been working at Ocean Media

    Pros

    Great inter-departmental support
Laid back, comfortable environment (employees can wear shirts, jeans, and flip-flops to work)
Lots of perks (gym; daily lunches; chips and beverages available in the kitchen; summer half-day Friday's, Dodgers and Lakers tickets; quarterly company events)
    Great health benefits package
Paid time off for doctors appointments
Senior Management frowns at too much overtime put in by employees
The number of employees and clients have doubled within the last couple years.

    Cons

Sometimes there is lack of communication among departments
If you're not in the Media department, you are not part of the "IN" crowd (they get more praises and attention than any other department, as well as from networks)
No 401K contribution plan or any other form of retirement plan
There are a lot of cliques
Some employees don't receive the recognition or appreciation they deserve (a lot of nepitism and preferential treatment in the company)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You definitely know how to keep your employees happy and content. Kudos to you on that!
