Pros
Office Depot -BSD The company is an OK company to work for. It really depends on your manager. I happen to have a great manager who will bend over backwards for you as long as you are doing your job. You will learn a lot about doing business at this company. The work life balance is pretty good. The salary can be OK. You get a decent base salary with decent commission checks every month....if you hit your numbers.
Cons
What really makes it hard at this company is that Upper Management is always making some sort of change. When I say change, it seems to happen pretty often and it makes it hard to get anything going. The company is not being profitable, so things are pretty crazy there right now. Learning how you get paid your commission can be hard to understand. There is always pressure on your to produce in a very tough market
Advice to Senior Management
Stop making so many changes when it comes to going to the market and with the sales reps commission checks
Pros
flexible hours for associates and great team communication
Cons
hard to get a promotion
Advice to Senior Management
be more proactive and give more oportunities to grow to the associates
Pros
Excellent pay for the work. Very family-like atmosphere that can be very fun, given the right management staff in the store.
Cons
More negative pressure than positive praise is the norm. Unrealistic expectations put on stores in regards to tasks vs. customer service. Often conflicting information/directions coming from different areas of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to get expectations (in regards to tasks vs. customer service) more inline with the reality of the current economic and store environment.
Pros
close commute. worked with some solid individuals whom i will miss.
Cons
disorganized management. lack of leadership from CEO on down. lack of solid plan to bring company back to fiscal life. inadequate training. learned primarily on the job, and came to realize that majorily learned what not to do. did best to self teach. unfortunately, not confident that skills learned are transferable to another company.
Advice to Senior Management
as with previous comment by store manager, re: dept mgrs, either reduce responsiblities or increase compensation.
Pros
Some good people, nice facilities, great location
Cons
Declining sales, no profit, executives salaries too high
Advice to Senior Management
Improve company performance!
Pros
Okay benefits, good salary and okay bonus opportunity.
Cons
Direction for Sales Organization constantly changing which was difficult and frustrating. To many goals to meet to earn bonus opportunity.
Advice to Senior Management
Set goals and stick to them.
Pros
Good beginning salary and up to 40 hours a week
Cons
Management doesn't really give a rats a** about you.
Advice to Senior Management
If you are working a seated forklift and getting over 10 an hour go for the job, if not don't bother with them
Pros
1) Its better than starving and works great if you are not concerned about frivolous things like money.
2) Lower management is usually very helpful.
3) Flexible hours since 90% or more of the workforce is part time.
Cons
1) Only going to make minimum wage, regardless of qualifications for the job.
2) Will hire outside store for management over people who have been there for years.
3) Effort is supposed to be pointed towards customer satisfaction but we as employees are not trained to properly handle what most customers need.
4) Raises are only given once per year, and when they are raises are very small.
Advice to Senior Management
1) Need to fix the computer systems to make getting stuff organized and implemented far less time consuming. When it takes someone 10 minutes to ship a single package because the computer locks up 3 times doing a single shipment its time to work something else out.
2) If someone is over qualified for the job, don't pay them the same as someone who does virtually nothing as a cashier.
3) Commission should be on an individual basis.
4) Need 2 managers on shift during peak hours, one in back taking care of the office functions and one on the floor putting out fires resulting from incompetent customer service reps.
Pros
There are some good people and the pay was very good. I also like the product.
Cons
Private label department management and team is over the top. I never experienced such an unprofessional group. It was the kind of place that many people looked to get each other into trouble so that they would look good to management. The team was uncooperative and extremely competitive in a bad way.
Pros
Wonderful opportunities to work your way up. This is a very hard question to answer, since they economy turned so did Office Depot. Everyone is so uptight and forgot how this was a company who got the job done having fun. I'm very proud to say I work here.
Cons
As a salaried employee I have to work seven days a week, at lease three weeks a month. You average about 70 hour a week, but a 92 hour week is very common. Office Depot fired all full time employees and hired in part timers at $7.35 hour. when that's all you make you don't care about your job, you can make that anywhere. Therefore all the work falls on the management.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop selling computers we lose to much money on them. Hire employees to make real money so they have something to work hard for and proud of. Stop pushing the services so hard it makes the company such a small percentage when it come to the bottom line. The bottom line should be the priority once again.
