I worked at Office Depot (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management staff was always willing to work additional hours or come in on days off to get the job done, or to help when we were short staffed

    Cons

Worked for the company pre-merger. The were focused on bolstering the stock price by superficially inflating customer approval by engaging in ridiculous practices (ex: issuing a customer a $1,500 gift card for a laptop said customer purchased two years ago for $500, but which had recently been destroyed from being dropped)

    Advice to Management

I am management. Advise to corporate, however, is that if "Depot Time" still exists, that crap needs to be axed. All of our staffing hours goes to having employees standing around for the bulk of the day, and leaving us with no hours to get actual tasking done.

I have been working at Office Depot full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    It's a full-time job, and you get a discount.

    Cons

Overworked and under paid. Unless you're a manager, I don't think the job is worth doing for the pay.

    Pros

They work with you if you have another job or going to school.

    Cons

There is little room for growth in this company.

  8. No room for advancement, high turn over rate

    Pros

Co-workers. Some of the customers have great connections so it's a nice way to meet people with some connections. But there isn't must to rave about Office Depot.

    Cons

The discount is horrible on 10%, 20% off of food which is over priced. The pay is low cashier-8.50 but they expect you to basically be the stores personal secretary. In store prices are inconsistent with online prices which causes a lot of problems for customers. Recently took away all benefits for part-times. Cut commission sales from 20% to 5% so if you sold 100 worth of stuff you wil only get 5 dollars back to be put on your paycheck versus 20 dollars you could have been getting. Overall the company is very cheap, they are cutting benefits and other things to put more money in their pockets. Plus little no space for advancement seeing that you can only be full-time as a manager and a manger position only becomes available if someone in management leaves. And unlike management positions, part-time positions have a high turn over rate. And lastly, with the high turn over rate expect to basically be on call just incase someone doesn't show up for their shift.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to all be on the same page, to help their workers and their customers. Office Depot has a guide on how to manage the store but that has proven unsuccessful, so upper management needs lots of work as well.

I worked at Office Depot part-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

great clean job for college students that always had opportunities to grow. flexible hours and even as a part time worker, i was a recognizable face to upper management at the corporate level.

    Cons

work compensation was not always fair when comparing to job responsibility. An employee could be capped at a particular level within the company despite years of service.

I worked at Office Depot part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Working at Office Depot is a great experience to learn about modern technology and photo shop. You meet many kinds of customers, from students to big shot employers who will try to get you into their company or hook you up with something if you hook them up with a discount. Friendly staff.

    Cons

The working conditions could be better. You get overworked and little training that has nothing to do with what you actually do.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees better, and when they ask for less hours for school purposes, work with them, instead of finding a way to get them terminated.
