Pros
-Good hours, out of the store by 10pm
-Decent benefits
-Great customers
Cons
-Management told not to manage and not get involved, in other word the lead from a far. This ends up creating over worked lower management and an uninformed upper management
-Outdated registers
Pros
This company has a lot of good people.
Cons
The company is slowly shrinking.
Advice to Senior Management
Value your employees.
Pros
-Flexible hours are available
-You get to play around w/ new technologies
-You can typically leave your work at work and is good for part time supplemental employment
Cons
-Far too many expectations with little to no compensation.
-If you get stuck w/ bad managers, you're going to hate life.
-Little opportunity for advancement into managerial roles.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize that there are limitations to what associates have time to do. Realize that part time associates typically don't plan on working there their whole lives, and that the pay, being as crappy as it is, isn't going to make associates overly motivated.
Pros
steady paycheck
its a job
lots of "free time"
Cons
discount blows
management is very weak (maybe it was just my store/district)
Advice to Senior Management
your employees are the people that get you YOUR paycheck. respect them. and train them as much as you can so they can grow.
Pros
Good flexibility with the schedules.
Good job for a college student.
Cons
Poor benefits, specially for part-time employees.
Too much pressure to achieve oftentimes unrealistic sales goals.
Advice to Senior Management
Get more feedback from the store employees, they are the ones that knows each store strengths and weaknesses the most and so what and how to improve.
Pros
Good company to work for and nice people.
Cons
The company changes their strategy pretty consistently. Not a terrible thing but the structure does change quite often.
Pros
Management was great and it was a good working atmosphere. The company is very forward thinking and my team was very family oriented and very supporitive. I really enjoyed coming to work every morning.
Cons
Outside of day to day operations I'm not sure how OfficeMax will stand up aainst the competition which made it a little unnerving while working there.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep searching for innovative ways to gain new customers and keep old ones so that your employees' mines are more at ease.
Pros
Monday - Friday job... supervisor work can be slack at times.
Cons
Salary depends on the stores income, raises are hard to come buy
Advice to Senior Management
Look into whats happening in the store, management and employees. It would reduce your shrink.
Pros
Flexible schedule. Meet alot of new people. Help out cutomers in need.
Cons
Horrible pay. Long hours on feet. Scare tactics to sell insurances, and force to lie too customers about not having the product because they dont want the plans. Hard workers dont get there recognition and lazy ones get all the perks. Hours get cut the store doesnt sell enough Max Insurance!
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to managers because they sit in the office and eat all day, talk on there cell phones, and get fustrated when we ask them for help and expect associates to know everything when they have not tought us in the first place. Also prevent the store manager from hire tons of knew people and giving them all the hours and leaving the vets with minimun hours who are the ones that really keep the stores afloat! Also keep track on how many associates quit within a years time and you all will really find out thats its the key carriers and senior manager who is creating all the trouble!
Pros
Good place to start getting work experience.
Cons
Very low pay. Poor management. Hard to ever get time off. Good luck getting a raise it is impossible no matter how much money you make for the business.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your employees more and maybe they will be more willing to respect you back. If you are going to abuse your power within the company it is going to make someone very angry.
