I worked at OfficeMax full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I was able to work with some really great people ranging from high school to pre-retirement, all of whom became a "family" away from home.

    Cons

The company was bought out by OfficeDepot and everyone in my store was fired.

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

I absolutely love working for Office Max! Management at my store is amazing I couldn't think of a better group of people to work for! I love the connections made with the customers! Some customers insist on only coming in when certain people are working because of the relationship they have built.

I love that the company doesn't only focus on the numbers but rather the customer experience.

Working for a company this great really makes it hard to find a second job that I don't hate!

    Cons

Only thing that sucks is before the Office Depot Office Max merger I was a part time associate working 39.5 hours a week and after the merger they cut my hours to around 20. I just want my hours back! Being the most senior cashier there I should be getting the most hours of the cashiers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give your most senior and loyal employees the hours they deserve. (I am the only associate who constantly works doubles and picks up any extra shifts whenever needed)

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

Nice corporation atmosphere, relaxing, and very well structured process.

    Cons

Too many last minute changes on projects that would deploy the next day or on the current day. The communication and approval for certain projects needs faster response times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the approval process to a minimal amount of people.

I have been working at OfficeMax as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

I work as a contract accountant in the Sales & Margin section of Finance department and people were very friendly and personable. The work was complex but achievable and the deadlines weren't too bad, with the exception of period close. Good pay for contract work and my supervisor was particularly understanding of the need for work-life balance, and that's not really something I've found elsewhere.

    Cons

The part of my job that dealt with sales managers was never fun because they will go against the contract just to please a customer, even if it's to the detriment of the company. That, and with the merger people were a bit forlorn because their jobs will be ending after the new year.
