Great Management. Fun atmosphere. Learn & grow here. Learn your strength & weaknesses. Alot of information regarding inventory, sales, revisions, plannograms, signage library, etc.

    Cons

Pay is low. Not really good for college students. Warranty plans are pushed constantly. Company has low margin & high standards for sales goals. Just merged with Office Depot.

    Pros

Great store teams and supportive peers

    Cons

At Corporate, the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, often leaving you stuck in the middle. Constant budget cuts are common, while demanding more out of your staff.

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

The culture at OfficeMax was great. People didn't always agree but there was a sense of drive and focus to where we wanted to be as a company.

    Cons

With headquarters being in Boca now, the culture has morphed into what Depot was and is. The goals seemed to be what the quickest solution was instead of the best value or long term gain. You always felt that someone was going to use you as a scape goat or stab you in the back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The new Depot needs to create a common goal and foster an attitude of success for all and stay away from blame. Learn from all experiences and try to take a little time to determine long term strategy from a corporate standpoint not just a departmental standpoint.

Could be a better merger if it were not one sided. Why did the company keep OfficeDepot name if it was a new company?

I have been working at OfficeMax

    Pros

Co-workers. Most of the sales reps. Customers.

    Cons

Too many OM long term employees are leaving or layed off. Since the merger things are more stressful. Everything is going the Office Depot way. All the new systems that OfficeMax paid money to obtain & own are all being thrown out so OM employees have to learn all new systems while OD know the system. Nothing wrong with learning new things but, it is all the Depot way. It doesn't seem that they reviewed the good points of the OM systems. There were things OM was able to do that OD cannot do. This is frustrating to us and very much so for the OM customers. With OD way is submit and wait. Things take twice as long to get accomplished than they did the OM way. We would do the work and it was done, now we have to submit the work in OD system in their format or it's wrong then have to resubmit again till the system says it is correct which takes at least 24 hours minimum, where with OM we were complete the same day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review more of the systems to see the best in both. Stop laying off OM employees (Account Maint in Ottawa) causing the AM team in Bristol to be in overload due to loosing 1/2 the team. Think more about employees and show more appreciation for what we do. Do not take jobs from US & move them overseas. Customers are not happy with this and lots of complaints from Sales Reps on quality of service since this was put in practice. In doing so, lost a lot of good long term employees with OM.
