    Pros

Extremely talented colleagues, lots of freedom to learn new skills on the job, ability to seek mentorship if you see it out

    Cons

Can be pretty bureaucratic at times, not as collaborative in some departments, however, if you work in a great team, you can benefit a lot

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a better job at employee retention and training,

    Pros

Great place to work, lots of opportunities and great accounts to get experience on. Great place to grow your career.

    Cons

Location is the worst - there is not much on 11th Avenue but that area is building up with places like Gotham West market.

    Pros

Training, sink or swim mentality, brand name, culture, global work and brilliant creatives.

    Cons

Too big. Better getting a more hands on experience in a smaller office than the Giant Chocolate Factory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people that are curious, creative and that think different! Don't put them in boxes but allow freedom to create big ideas.

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It is a global company and one of the biggest names out there. You enjoy tons of perks of a huge company in the advertising industry so it is a very comfortable place to work. Every day is fast paced and keeps you busy.

    Cons

At the end of the day I am not being pushed to do the most creative work that I can. Everyone in the creative department is more or less coasting on huge clients being happy doing what they've always done. There is no urgency to try new things and be competitive in an increasingly digital creative economy. The bureaucracy of the large company makes it difficult to push creative ideas through, and there is a feeling of widespread consensus amongst most creatives that nobody is truly happy with the work they are producing (unless old school banners and emails are your thing).

There is also no room for professional growth. It is a known fact in the company that you will not receive a raise or promotion unless you get a competing offer or actually move companies. There is no reward system in place for hard working individuals, instead that hardest working individuals get taken advantage of with uncompensated late nights and working weekends. There needs to be some kind of professional track in place for young motivated creatives to see a path for their future towards management or higher professional creative roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To use your own line... "start in like a start up." There needs to be more space for collaboration and less rigid structures of the traditional two person "copywriter & art director" team. Allow people to grab individuals for different projects based on those individuals' strengths and talents. the creative management team does not understand this and there is a serious lack of communication between those creative managers and the creatives being placed on projects.

I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather

    Pros

The people are great - smart, talented, funny, and generally awesome to be around. The people who work at Ogilvy are often times what make other people stay. Benefits are nice - we get the week between Christmas and New Year's off, which is great.

    Cons

Work-life balance is hard to achieve here. In my experience, direct managers are very appreciative of their team members but beyond that, it's very rare to be rewarded for hard work. Many people get stuck in their position for years - underpaid and overworked with little to no support. All of this depends largely on the accounts you work on, but for the most part people - especially in account management - never seem to be able to catch up because they are buried in work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep fostering good office culture, but find a way to reward and retain the best talent - otherwise, they'll keep leaving for other agencies.

I worked at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The wit & wisdom of founder David Ogilvy, still permeates and inspires, tho in a very attenuated fashion. Some genuinely nice people, decent creative, some quite good amazingly long tenures in that dept.

    Cons

Head of Planning has been a revolving door.
WPP stranglehold on finances, salaries lag.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire a head of planning with vision and stature -maybe look beyond the usual suspects.

People, flex work arrangements, generous holidays, ample social activities.

    Cons

Raises (or lack thereof), which are controlled by senior management. Process change involves vetting of too many people.
