A fun place to work but you'll have to leave to advance your career

Senior Client Finance Associate (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGreat people, interesting work, nice office

ConsBad systems in place, low pay compared to what they bill, raises are rare

The venerable brand is strong, if lumbering.

    Project Management Director (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

    ProsSmart, nice people
    Lots of capabilities
    Strong culture
    Lots of resources and facilities

    ConsA plodding behemoth
Generally a few years behind the curve, especially in digital
The organizational winners tend to have some higher level patron looking out for them
Account group is all over the map -- some folks are strong and good, others are shockingly incapable of completing the must simple of daily tasks
Much of the work is riding on inertia, not quality

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop places for your employees to act entrepreneurially and them let them...

A great place to start your career.

    Art Director (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsA great place to work on 360 ideas. A place to grow from a junior position. A lot of brands to work on.

ConsNo mentorship, no raises, no compensation for positive performance reviews, and conservative clients.

Advice to Senior Managementit promotes loyalty when you give your employees raises/bonuses at the end of the year. There is a high turn over rate for lower level creatives because of this issue.

    Very very good.

    Intern (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsEveryone is really intelligent and nice. The hours are extremely laid-back and flexible. And the work is interesting and rewarding. let alone the company is doing very well.

ConsThe pay is very mediocre here although most advertising agencies have similar salaries. However, if you stay and work hard you will move your way up and eventually make as much money as you are looking for.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey really need to connect with all of their employees more.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

nice place to work, but not for me

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsCool office. Bike room, showers.

Consnot a place to be a technologist. Tech is very fractured here, and you'll spend lots of time doing time tracking since everything is client driven & must be billed

    coffee is terrible.

Advice to Senior Managementstart thinking like a tech company. consolidate datacenters. figure out a new billing model that doesnt require a separate aws account / project / client.

Great place to get your feet wet

    Interactive Project Manager (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsGood process direction. Production teams crave process.

ConsCreatives are closed-off to hearing opinions from anyone other than their ECDs.

Advice to Senior ManagementEven a mailroom attendant can have a good idea. Promote cross-pollination of ideas among teams and break down the barriers between production and creative.

Dynamic company with many offices worldwide.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere are several offices worldwide meaning there is always a new, dynamic campaign being implemented. Creative company culture.

ConsIt is a large company so any issues that you have can get diluted in a large corporate culture.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think the opportunity to be creative means integrating yourself more with the local culture to broaden your horizons outside the office.

    Wonderful and Flawed

    Account Executive (Current Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsThe environment is extremely collaborative; I think it's one of the most integrated agencies in the business. The people are incredibly intelligent and care a lot about the work they do. It's clear the teams care about their clients and accounts and truly want to produce the best work possible.

The company is faced paced and you can learn an incredible amount if you're willing to absorb it. I honestly believe you can get the best experience of your career in right away by getting a foot in the door at O&M.

The culture of the company, meaning the people, bring so much value and fun to the environment. Coming to work is like come in to see your 500 closest friends. Your colleagues become your friends and work family, in the best way possible.

ConsThere can be a number of political battles to fight if you want to get to the top. Because it's such a large company, recognition can be hard to come by. Additionally, there's clearly a "boys club" culture, so it can be hard for a woman to break into the leadership team.

Promotions and raises can be frustrating, as they aren't necessarily always based on merit but on timing (promotions only come so often due to regulations of parent company WPP) and often are given to those who seem to be a high flight risk.

    Great learning experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsAmazing cultural dna all around

ConsAll they care about is making money. Very hierarchical

Advice to Senior Managementlisten to your disenfranchised. turnover hurts and it can be reversed.
