    Pros

I felt like I made a difference in SOME of the kids' lives

    Cons

I have been working at Oklahoma City Public Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

2 weeks off in Oct, 2 1/2 weeks off in Dec & 2 weeks off in Mar. Most of June & July off - depending on how many snow days are called off.

    Cons

Most kids are empowered & entitled; behavior is horrible - no discipline - no admin support. Been at 3 schools and know many more. Not much parent support. Pay is extremely low, especially when you can cross north into Kansas or east into Arkansas and make thousands more per year. Technology fails or overloads, and all we do is test - data - test - data. 50% of eval depends upon the students. Snow days are not planned into the year. If days are called off, teachers are expected to make up every last second while also expected to work on their own time. If you need anything, expect to buy it yourself - inc technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat teachers with respect, give them support, and pay better.

    Pros

Students in OKCPS need the best of the best; working for this district is rewarding on a daily basis because of the amazing children we serve.

    Cons

It's a hard era to be a teacher; No Child Left Behind and state laws are making it for teachers across Oklahoma to do their jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be encouraging to teachers, and minimize paperwork as much as possible.

I worked at Oklahoma City Public Schools full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The best reasons to work for OKCPS is the great co workers. We were all in the same struggle together.

    Cons

The salary was not impressive. There is room for improvement in the curriculum structure. There needs to be more resources for schools in high poverty areas. There is a severe lack of technology.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep in mind that most of the teachers are really teaching because they love teaching. Respect, acknowledge, and reward that!

    Pros

Although the kids come from difficult situations, they're really great kids with potential.

    Cons

It can be impossible to behavior manage these students because they have poor home training.

I have been working at Oklahoma City Public Schools full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great kids and a few good colleagues. The younger staff members are great to work with, it is the older ones who will get in the way and bog down the system.

    Cons

Dealing with unionized labor in a professional environment is a joke. Most of the Administrators are nice but incompetent as well, case-in-point Douglass High School's recent fiasco.
