I have been working at Olam full-time

    Pros

Great work environment that allows you space for initiative and ideas. Very outcome focussed yet giving enough room for creativity and own initiative. Employee friendly. Does not resort to sudden restructuring as is the case with a lot of multinationals. Most managers genuinely care for their team members. CEO and leadership team give priority to engagement and employee satisfaction.

    Cons

A fast moving and high growth organisation and hence processes often lag behind requirement. a large part of operations in developing markets and therefore work processes have to align themselves with frequent changes brought about by events in these markets. This provides an opportunity to learn quick and street smart ways of working.

I have been working at Olam full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has vision and big goals which makes it exciting to work for Olam. I love that the company looks at 'next practice' and is also focussed on making a positive impact to communities, to the environment etc. You're given the opportunity to make a difference and have impact. I've been involved in several key projects which I've found challenging, rewarding and a wonderful learning experience. I love that I get to work with a diverse group of passionate people who are all driven. It is fun to talk to people from different cultures and to learn to work well with colleagues from other parts of the world. When big changes or decisions are made, you can understand why and there is generally a consultative approach. In fact the CEO is visible and takes time to communicate the company values, strategy etc. Management genuinely care about staff. There is a concerted effort to communicate what is happening around the business and to share learnings.

    Cons

I've enjoyed my time with Olam. In a global business when you work with people across the world there are some long hours involved - but that is to be expected and when you're passionate about the projects you work on it isn't hard at all. Some of our systems need and processes could be updated which is no different to most companies. There is focus and energy on achieving this. Sometimes I think we bite off too much all at once and push our people a little too hard. It is energising but we do need to stop and celebrate the journey and our successes a little more.
