Gurgaon, Haryana (India)

Former Employee – worked at Olam full-time for more than a year

ProsEntrepreneurial culture
Freedom to play with new ideas

ConsNo Value for talent
Very high difference between salary structure for people at same levels depending on management's view of your performance
Penny pinching in India office especially for programs related to employee growth
Unethical business practices and accounting play
Huge difference between promised bonuses and actuals. Largest share of pie kept at the senior management level (least productive level) and the actual work force gets a pittance.

Advice to Senior ManagementSalaries should be at par for all employees at the Fixed component level.
Value your word
Rise to the occasion
Contribute to team's performance instead of just cornering the bonus.

Vancouver, BC (Canada)

Former Employee – worked at Olam full-time for more than 7 years

ProsOlam allows its managers to take large responsibilities at a very early stage. This allows exposure into running a P&L or a trading book at a very early stage in your career. You are also drafted into strategy teams that forces strategic thinking in a very early part of your career

ConsTheir systems and processes both for the business and people leave a lot to be desired. The place is still run with a large emphasis on individuals and their ability to "get thing done" rather than processes that allow seamless transactions

Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam (Tanzania)

Former Employee – worked at Olam full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIndependence because of working in Africa. Money and perks are good compared to India. Exposure to general management is faster

Consthey have a tendency to control personal life choices, a company that micro manages managers and expects every manager to do the same, the culture is quite a typical either you fit in or you don't ..

Advice to Senior ManagementDiversity is not a bad thing, and a lot of people with one way of thinking leads to a downfall.
