    Pros

Good pay, not micro managed, freedom and trust.

    Cons

Long hours, usually overnights. Claims to be a family company, until you screw up once, then you're a step child and they disown you.

I worked at Old Dominion Freight

    Pros

Excellent pay, good equipment, good benefits. Only going to get better in the near term.

    Cons

Its trucking, long hours, hard work, dangerous work, high pressure work. One serious mistake and you are gone and not many other companies will touch you. It is getting tough out there due to feds. Not much training in my particular terminal. Not much room for growth in my terminal unless you were friends with the TM, typical of most corporate environments though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to implement a solid training program. Not just multiple choice questions on a computer. Actual hands on.

    Pros

Decent pay, and ok insurance but you pay a premium for it. They advertise the highest paid in the industry, but working 60 hours a week with no overtime pay I guess they think we can not do simple math.

    Cons

All straight time pay, the 401k they advertise they match up to 6 percent. Well thats 1/3 of a percent up to 6 percent, and the profit sharing you might have them contribute about 7 to 9 hundred a year in your 401k with there match and profit sharing.(joke) Insurance is not the best and you pay a lot for what you get. You are pushed to the point of failure and if you mess up one time they want to fire you immediately without hearing your side of the story. Even after yrs of being a top producer. Do not mess up or talk back during the slow season you will be fired for no reason Ive seen it many times, all it takes is a dishonest lady we have working in the office who does billing to fire off and email and you are done. They advertise , non union environment all the time, is that for there benefit or the employees, definitely not the employees, they do not want to pay overtime give decent insurance or any type of pension is why they are so big on being non union. They hire kids for the dock work and train them, meaning a lot of tore up freight being hidden from the customers. Even the dock workers are pushed to were they do a very half way job, and when freight is tore up they deny the customers claim. Seen that many times also.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually listen sometimes to the employees instead of just telling them what they want to hear then back to screwing them around a week later.

I worked at Old Dominion Freight

    Pros

Great team, excellent product. I really enjoyed my time at OD. They are always striving to provide the absolute best service in the LTL space.

    Cons

No company cons. My only con is the industry itself. All driven by price.

I worked at Old Dominion Freight full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay and bonuses for management every quarter if you perform. I always felt that all my Vp's up to the President were 100% behind the managers. I was wrong!

    Cons

Worry about what your employees think of you! Upper management will fire anyone in management if hourly employees are upset. Terrified of small numbers getting together against management. Odfl will not back you as a manager even though you have a perfect record. Employees complain = no career! It's that fast!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually make a decision after an investigation not before you do one. You might find out the truth. It's the easiest way out to get rid of the managers.
