I have been working at Old Dominion Freight full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, 5 day work week for line-haul, top of industry pay, new well maintained equipment, pleasant coworkers, excellent and affordable benefits, driver's are treated with respect.

    Cons

I really find in difficult to have any complaints. Old Dominion is, by far, the best place i have worked as a driver. Cons are typical of any trucking job, long hours, and sometimes working in rough weather conditions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing! The small things you do go along way in contributing to morale.

    Pros

Pay was good and stock was great. Insurance was free for just one person. Bonus every quarter was a regular thing.

    Cons

Outdated computer systems and dock equipment. Not enough training for employees all around. Long hours because they weren't fully staffed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to train your Supervisors better.

I worked at Old Dominion Freight full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great insurance, 401K match, the people, the pay, nice equipment, customer flexibility, strong financially secure company.

    Cons

Too many hours, no appreciation, too many "good ole boy" clubs, does not always hire from within, upper management are not honest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire from within especially when the employee has the skills and qualifications, keeps employee morale in check. Corporate office closes for holidays but makes terminals work, especially line haul... Not right! Corporate office take 1 hour lunch breaks and work 8 hour days. Terminal workers take 1/2 hour lunch breaks and work 10 plus hour days... No time to spend with family. Not a family oriented company as claimed.

I have been working at Old Dominion Freight full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

pay is good, that's about it.

    Cons

The good ol boys system isn't working, morale sucks, management spends more time using it's time at work for personal agenda. Nothing is ever good enough, the daily cussing and threatened to be fired is getting old.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why are you hiring these college kids that have no idea what's going on, why not promote from within.

I worked at Old Dominion Freight part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Decent pay compared to what most places pay

Early morning hours, so your evenings are free

    Cons

Was treated unfairly and unprofessionally after I experienced an injury. Also, I received terrible training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked for this company for about six months and everything seemed fine at first. However, things began to change after I accidentally injured myself at home one day, and was prescribed to stay home and rest by my doctor. The company pressured me to come back to work earlier than my doctor recommended, but since I'm a kind and thoughtful person, I went ahead and decided to go back early. One morning, after an extreme amount of effort was used to drive myself to work (due to my injury), my efforts were wasted when I realized that I was locked out of the building even though I was scheduled to be there. They didn't even pay me for showing up! They acted like it was my fault for not waiting longer for someone to come unlock the door (after I had already patiently waited for an hour...). Also, I had to use the restroom very badly, so there wasn't any way that I could wait any longer. I requested to still be paid for that day since it wasn't my fault that they didn't unlock the door on time, but they said no. So I went up the ladder and started calling the corporate bosses of the company to tell them what happened and to see if they would help me. Long story short, they acted like I was completely at fault and wouldn't take any responsibility for what happened. I have never felt so taken advantage of and unappreciated by a company before in my whole life. I 1000% do not recommend working for this company. They don't care about their employees or about behaving like decent human beings...if I could give them no star, I would.
