Pros
some of the best reasons to work for Old Mutual is the salary and bonuses.
Cons
some of the downsides is limited flex time.
Pros
Being employed is better than being unemployed. Responsibilities are delegated, and compensation was fair. The company does maintain a strong balance sheet.
Cons
The failure of leadership means your job is at high risk of developing into a past position as they lay people off to compensate for their failures.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a vision and treat people with respect.
Don't rely on direct reports to tell you what is going on. The issues underneath them are severe and known to the staff's. They could tell you how to fix them before you sell the subsidiary and fire everyone.
Treat people fairly.
Pros
Good place to work day to day
Helpful colleagues and no back stabbing
Opportunities for growth - You work and you grow
Cons
Wish management was more helpful
Very busy but very competent leadership team
Want more vacation time
Want more team building acts
Advice to Senior Management
Talk more to employees
Great job you do, keep it up
work towards improving morale in team when tough situations are over
Pros
Employees are allowed to work from home. Great access to training for employees.
Cons
Favortism, lack of team work within 1 group.
Advice to Senior Management
a more professional approach and less interpersonal information
Pros
Greater than average diversity. Uniqueness is respected. Flexible working hours and rules. A liberal atmosphere. Comraderie among staff. There is plenty of work to do.
Cons
Layoffs. Twelve hour work days. Uncertainty about the future of the company. Fires to put out everywhere. High attrition rate. This year, bonuses were not given, and raises were given only to a select few.
Advice to Senior Management
Give bonuses and raises next year. We have been working hard, and we deserve to be compensated. Invest more in developing junior staff. Don't just toss them into the lake and expect them to swim.
Pros
Career development and easy access to senior management
Cons
Very inefficient management. The pay is not competitive and pay raises are scarce. Just recently downsized
Advice to Senior Management
Invest more money in finding the right talent to run a tight ship-qualified professionals who will work for the right money; eliminate wasteful spending on overpriced consultants that do a poor job, and greedy MGA's that do not produce enough business.
Pros
Balance personal and work - allowing time off when one needs it.
They seem to provide benefits which are slightly higher than other competitors in the industry.
Cons
compartmentalised nature of the group - there seems to be a lot of r redundancies with no clear group direction. Senior management do not appear to want to feed back information to the staff. Communication is good but could be better.
Advice to Senior Management
It is important that staff feel part of the business. Businesses where staff have felt part of the business, they have given unquestionably of their time and effects. Be more forth coming and keeping staff in the loop with what goes on in the rest of the group and how this might affect them. In this era of near recession, it is important that staff feel senior management are sympathetic to what might become of their jobs and whether or not they will be losing theirs.
