I was promoted to ops. manager. The store I'm at now is a disaster. Beware of inexperienced store managers.

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Discounts (including the Gap, Banana Republic, and other stores they partnered with), the employees, really fun environment! There's contests and other incentives for employees. We can dress in association with certain sales/events, example: this weekend there was a huge sale on pajamas so we were urged to wear pajamas, we are urged to wear a red shirt we own or the one they handed out for black Friday every weekend through the holidays. Is a lot of fun, I love working here!

    Cons

Not to much to complain about, maybe I'll be writing another review in a few months. I guess I'd have to say lack of hours (I am seasonal for now, that may change if they keep me and my performance or seniority) & recovering sections (especially holiday time it gets really messy and go-backs are ridiculous).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer me a leader position in a month or 2!!! I know you won't know who I am but I'm gonna put that thought out there.

I have been working at Old Navy

    Pros

I've worked my way up from Sales Associate, to Pricing Specialist, to Merchandising Manager, to Assistant Store Manager. Working as a sales associate was great while I was in school, but Old Navy has proven to be a great place to grow professionally since I've graduated college. I have established a great network of support, especially 2 people that will be life long professional mentors to me. I feel well compensated, supported in my work-life balance, and well trained and provided with resources for success.

    Cons

While working in the store, retail hours are always a bit of a bummer--inconsistent, early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, etc. You will find this with any retail company, though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bridge the gap between headquarters and store level--sometimes ideas at corporate really don't make sense once in the store and in action.

    I worked at Old Navy

    Pros

Management is nice, very diverse, accepting , and comfortable place to work. Casual dress code and awesome employee discount, including other Gap Inc stores.

    Cons

Nothing bad about the company or location, customers can be rude and demanding but that's with any profession when you work with the general public.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing. One note, try to get more working walkies, that was a hassle, and made the job a little harder.

I worked at Old Navy part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get discounts to old navy, the gap and banana republic. The music played is upbeat. During big promotions, you usually get a staff tee shirt, which you can then use as a gym shirt later!

    Cons

Hours can vary widely, managers often give the most hours to those who sign up the most people for an Old Navy card, however, if I'm only working 10 hours a week, how am I supposed to get as many opportunities?

I have been working at Old Navy part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The Old Navy I work at has great managers who truly care about their employees and their customers. It's a good company to move up the ranks in. They're also extremely flexible when it comes to hours. The employee discount is AMAZING.

    Cons

The pay is not that good. If this was a full-time job for me, it would be unacceptable. Scheduling is the one thing I truly hate. You often don't have the next week's schedule (starting on Sunday) until Thursday, so it's hard to plan ahead.
