I have been working at Old Navy part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great part-time hours for associates being generally about 5hr shifts.
    Very flexible work schedules.
Chance to win small rewards for meeting or exceeding goals individually and as a team.
Chance to work in each area of the store.

    Cons

    Only part-time for associates.
You aren't allowed to count your own cash drawer.
Working during the day on thanksgiving.
    Hours are cut often.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My store specifically has a lot of managers, so associates end up confused with 5 different voices directing them within such a short shift. Communication between managers could be improved to make it less confusing and more concise.

    I worked at Old Navy

    Pros

For part-time: Paid 15 min breaks and non-paid lunch either 30 min or an hour depending on your work day. Shouldn't (not can't) work you more than 7 days in a row or over 40 hrs a week. Paid lunch if you work over-night.

For Full-Time: Paid 15, non paid hour lunch, Paid holiday hours, over time,

    Cons

Lots and lots of folding and cleaning. It eventually hurts your back from leaning over for so long on the folding carts. I HATE working the Fitting Room, it is a nightmare. People are mean and they pee in clothes or leave them inside out just to be mean. I don't want to touch the crotch of anything anyone tried on. GROSS. Lack of communication. UGH. I worked in 2 different stores and they both had this problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please keep communication, communicating is key! Keep your roles. Don't jump from role to role. If your SiTM stay that, if your OP's, stay there.

I have been working at Old Navy

    Pros

Their pay is higher then most retail stores. Discount is awesome and most employees are fun to work with.

    Cons

Corporate constantly changes the dates of sales at the last minute making it hard to plan ahead of time. A lot of walking so you will be to physically exhausted at the end of you shift to have a life outside of work. Customers don't realize how much work goes into a store and create more work for employees the necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold lazy associates accountable so other employees aren't having to pull the weight of others and are stretched to thin. Don't play favorites when it comes to promoting. schedule more employees!!!!

A mildly pleasant place of employment. It is a good place for a first time employees to learn retail.

I have been working at Old Navy

    Pros

    Moderately flexible scheduling.
The jobs and roles can carry some variance to break up the usual monotony of retail.
The PT/seasonal employees are the source of most of the fun/camaraderie.

    Cons

    Management poorly trained and supported.
The majority of management I encountered and worked alongside were ill-fitted to do their job.
    Poor paying.
A lot of the movement within the company is favoritism and creates an uncomfortable work environment.
No work/life balance unless you don't want paid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would advise you to stop rolling out new training and hiring practices that are needlessly time consuming. Have software/hardware that is up-to-date and more user-friendly. Identify and place the right/qualified candidate into management roles.
