I have been working at Old World Industries full-time

    Pros

    Great co-workers
    Great Atmosphere
    Easy going
    Good Benefits
    No micromanaging

    Cons

    Man's Environment
Not a lot of room to move up
    No training
Don't welcome change - if it isn't broken don't fix it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break away from OWI is a "men's place" and look around the corner at all the potential. They have so much potential to grow, but are afraid of shake ups.

I have been working at Old World Industries full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Not many, benefits and compensation were average

    Cons

Revolving door of employees, no one ever stayed long enough to really understand the position they held.
Management had numerous closed door secret meetings and would often hold interviews with interviewees from staffing agencies to replace their current staff.

No trust between employees and management, very negative work environment. Quit after several months of dealing with Old World's negative management style.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to keep employees longer than a year. Your management style is far below the industry standard and with the sale of the company, you should try to make employees feel safe in their positions.

I worked at Old World Industries full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great opportunity to work in global marketer/supplier setting. Numerous talented individuals in a wide variety of professions and from diverse backgrounds.

    Cons

Certain senior leadership very truculent and rude at times. Seemed to believe they were impervious to civility and contemporary management ideologies.

I have been working at Old World Industries full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This company has decent health benefits. They have an In house workout room to be used after hours, but certain employees can use it during working hours.

    Cons

Male dominated. Only top management and sales personnel receive rewards. Support staff has no incentive to grow in the job. Have to "watch your back", can't trust supervisors/managers or other line coworkers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management really doesn't care about support staff.

I have been working at Old World Industries

    Pros

Old World is a stable company with a good business model. Emphasis is on product development and marketing; non-core competencies are outsourced, which enables considerable market presense while requiring minimal infrastructure.

    Cons

Upper-management and bonused stake-holders (senior positions receive bonus/profit-sharing incentives) are incredibly secretive, almost to a fault. The company culture is resistant to change and training and development are behind the times, which has created a company that is operationally and culturally behind the times and lacking innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Empower and develop employees; the majority of workers want to do a good job, and by developing them, giving them the information required to do their jobs, and allowing them to act in the companies best interest, it becomes unnecassary to micromange and efforts can be redirected into strategy and innovation.

I worked at Old World Industries

    Pros

An absolutely fantastic business model inasmuch as they are focused on marketing their products rather than the actual manufacture, warehousing or distribution.

    Cons

A typical privately held firm where the key managers have the majority of information and seldom convey it to the masses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust in your employees and include them in all of the product information so they are better able to understand and participate.

I worked at Old World Industries

    Pros

    Most employees are nice.
The benefits are good, unique and varied, i.e., on site exercise facilities and subsidized cafeteria.
    Ample parking.

    Cons

Out of date office facilities; dark, dirty, cold and much too small for the current staff.
There is a definite old boys club atmosphere.

I worked at Old World Industries

    Pros

    Friendly co-workers
    Autonomy in job
    Supportive managers
    Opportunities for Growth
    Privately owned company
    Extremely supportive of military service
    Flexible work schedule

    Cons

Old World Industries is located in Northbrook, IL, which can be a long commute for employees that live in Chicago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think leadership does an overall great job. I would like to hear some sort of succession plan for the future.
