Great people, good pay, multiple locations and opportunity for advancement.Oldcastle has the ability to allow transfers of employees across most of the US and Canada.

    Cons

Constant change in Oldcastle makes it hard to keep up with management. Large fluxuations in the housing markets strongly affect sales and available positions.

    Pros

Good salary to start and decent benefits.

    Cons

Constantly reducing staff even if management is already thin. Their model is not of building , but maintaining profit margins.

    Pros

Good pay, great people and work space. Great team work atmosphere.

    Cons

Not all good work goes noticed. Unfortunately, some managers don't pass on an employees efforts to upper levels.

    Advice to Management

Be more clear to mid level management on the direction of the company. Too many "behind closed door" secrets.

    Pros

Largest company you have never heard of. Plenty of oppurtunity to grow if you are willing to travel. Many members of the orginzation leave the company for a few years and come back as a senior management.

    Cons

Most be creative if you want to grow. Very segmented company, will non-tradtional paths to the top.

    Pros

The company has some beautiful products, to which you can get some discounts. Also have some excellent people in the rank and file.

    Cons

Good ole boy network as many others have eluded to. Very white management structure and yes lots of food and booze. Yeeehawwww!!!!

    Advice to Management

Consider the value of diversity and promotion based on competence. It will propel your company into the 21st century.

    Pros

    Great pay, benefits and opportunities

    Cons

company is too focused on RONA and growth and provides little support to plants and plant management In my 9+ years I always worked at least 6 if not 7 days a week 12-14 hrs a day. This wasnt required but in order to operate the facility with no supervision to delegate tasks to was necessary.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your managers, when they tell you they need help listen to them. one individual cannot perform the tasks of 5 people

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for professional development paid for by the company (depending on your manager). Lots of long-term employees. Ability to work independently without being micromanaged. Fully stocked kitchen w/ snacks, occasional catered lunch.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement seemed to only be for the guys who fit with the guys in charge. If you're not Irish, I don't think they really care about you. Lots of arrogant people in charge. No diversity whatsoever and I think they prefer it that way. People way too uptight. Poor communication from the top down. Senior managers don't always make themselves available to the little guys. Boring and predictable work environment (forced monthly birthday celebrations and such.)

    Advice to Management

The corporate office is your classic good ol' boy network. If you're a white guy who loves to talk, you'll fit in great. If you're Irish, you might even be CEO one day. All these guys care about is drinking, golf and expensive meals with their clients. Us little guys don't exist. Senior managers don't make time for their employees - we feel ignored daily.
