    Pros

Salary is competitive You get paid overtime People are smart and pleasant and very dedicated You can learn many new technologies based on who your client is

    Cons

Your a consultant so once a project ends you do not know where your going next. Sometimes you feel like the only important thing you do is make money for the company. Depending on your client they sometimes treat you very much like a consultant, no regard for personal time. You may have to travel, you just might have to travel quite a bit. No career path when you consult. You may not like what your currently working on but you do not have much of a choice, it's not good to be on the bench.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employee's, improve on training, communication between employee's is an issue, need a better process for reviews.

    Pros

I was able to refresh my python skills, give a presentation and work on one continuous integration project which is what I really like to do.

    Cons

Lot of time spent on the bench and when put on projects they did not meet my skill set. Find myself getting bored and not a lot of growth potential career wise.

    Advice to Management

Learn to match skill sets to projects and also hold the SA managers accountable. I came into the organization and never once had a growth plan or career planning session which ultimately lead to my leaving.

    Pros

Paid bench time Variety of companies/industries to consult for

    Cons

No Work/Life Balance - minimal holidays, minimal paid time off, expensive insurance Below average pay You are just a money maker when at a client, when you are on the bench there is no opportunity for growth unless it is self directed. You can be required to do anything. Management doesn't care about you - only what they can make off of you You feel like if you make one mistake they will just drop you. You kind of live in fear.

    Advice to Management

Learn to listen and actually care about other people, not your profit or bonus More paid time off Pay people what they are worth.

    Pros

    - Paid bench time - Travel preferences considered - Strong culture dedicated to providing an excellent service - Chances to take on more responsibility - Pretty good variety of clients in different industries for a small company

    Cons

    - Lack of investment in future growth - No real strategy for company growth that I was aware of - Little communication with management - Compensation very controlled, no real formal process for giving raises and bonuses

    Advice to Management

Check in with your employees more and not just to review them, but ask for them to review you and their happiness with the company.

    Pros

Great autonomy at the client site. Able to serve the needs of the client. Able to develop my own relationships with the client and client management.

    Cons

I had little to no contact with other consultants. I expected there to be more communication with the client and with me about my work experience. I felt very much on my own.

    Advice to Management

Increase the number of times communication occurs with the consultant during the project. Find out his (her) opinion on how the project is going, and what is needed. Let the consultant know how the client feels about the project. Keep communication flowing.

I have been working at Olenick

    Pros

This is a small consultant company with the majority of the clients in the Chicago area.

    Cons

Small comany with big comapany ideas. Joined because I thought I would not be a statistic (not the case). Always reason for lok salary increase. Unclear of how client performance relates to bonus or increases. Limited training opportunities. Comapny policies not created to benefit emplyees, but restrict.

    Advice to Management

It's okay to be a small company. Embrace that. Spend time ilstening to you employees and what they want, instead of telling them what it's going to be...
