I have been working at Olson full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Olson is, in a word, awesome. I work in the Chicago office of our PR branch (named Olson Engage), and I couldn't be happier with my work. Sometimes the hours are long and the work is frustrating, but the workplace never ceases to challenge, inspire, support and motivate me. The senior leaders are all truly great people with our best interests at heart, and there is no negative sense of hierarchy. Everyone is given the opportunity to work on the business that best fits their talents, and there is always something new to talk about, explore, contribute to or learn from. I couldn't be happier.

    Cons

The hours are long, and sometimes the work is frustrating. Clients, amirite? But that's just part of agency life, and we all expect it and deal with it.

Most people in the world aren't this happy when they think of "work."

I have been working at Olson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I've worked for Olson for over seven years and have seen it grow from a small, Minneapolis-centric "digital shop" into a large, multi-office, multi-discipline agency that now recruits talent and clients from all over North America. It's my fourth agency and by far the one where I've felt the most welcomed and supported from day one. My raises have been far superior to anywhere else I've worked. In fact, I'm impressed with the number of people who've been able to try new jobs and areas within the company, as opposed to being pigeon-held in role where they are no longer happy. I love how often people are promoted from within, and I trust my colleagues. I have fun coming to this place called "work" and that's worth its weight in gold.

    Cons

The spirit of our founder John Olson is definitely missed. Our growth has been fast and exciting! But as we've grown, we, like many others, struggle to keep a tight connection to everyone within our company. Employees rely too heavily on the top management to create culture when it can and should come from everywhere within the company.

I have been working at Olson

    Pros

Want a company that plays as hard as it works? Then Olson is the place for you. Unbeatable location in the North Loop, directly across from Target Field, front door service on the light rail.

    Cons

Olson is a small company so expect to wear lots of hats. On the other hand it's easy to get pigeon holed into being known for one area or thing and it's hard to climb back out of that view.

I have been working at Olson full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Top notch talent. Great people and workspace. Lots of perks: random holidays, big celebrations and opportunities at every turn if you know where to look. Everyone works hard and plays hard.

    Cons

Didn't have a review in over three years of work. Upper level creatives were extremely difficult to track down if you didn't work with them directly. Very cliquey, and that determined who worked on what. Not a lot of transparency with employees, it always seemed like something was going on behind the scenes.

    I worked at Olson full-time

    Pros

Some really great people work here.

    Cons

Olson doesn't know who they want to be and doesn't have a clear vision how to get there. They have talented people but don't know how to manage their talent. Under new management it feels like all they care about is the bottom line.

I have been working at Olson

    Pros

Great place, motivating culture, never a dull moment. You have the opportunity to span clients and get a very diverse set of experiences.

    Cons

The culture is an agency. It's highly demanding and at times that can be quite stressful, but it's worth it when you work with great people.

    Pros

Good benefits. Generous PTO. They have a lot of happy hours and tons of free food. The office looks great. They have 401k match. They have health plan with HSA contribution. You can negotiate your PTO at the time of joining.

    Cons

Been there for 3 years. No recognition for hard work as the managers take the credit. Wish the parking was free.
