    Pros

    * Many projects to keep you busy and engaged all year round with breathers to improve your process, tools, and skills in-between
    * Interesting technology with a lot to learn, if you are willing to explore
    * Respected technical expertise is available in almost every group
    * Provides additional benefits: dinner after 6:30, encourages fitness classes every other day, and promotes Mandarin classes
    * When in a crisis situation, the departments can pull together and work very efficiently

    Cons

    * Uncollaborative, defensive work environment
    * Playing catch up with competitors.
    * Racially non-diverse and makes for difficult communication/collaboration
    * A heavy influence of Micron culture, which has brought the large-corporation expertise the company was looking for but also a toxic political structure and an "old boys' club" mentality
    * Pockets of incompetence and unrewarded individual efforts due to the company's inability to accurately measure job performance or biased hiring/management
    * The company is in the process of being sold, and it negatively affects work performance and morale

    Advice to Management

    * Focus on quality, not quantity.
    * Provide your engineers with resources to perform at and compete with the best.
    * Initiate proactive, visionary and positive change in the culture that is led by upper management in action rather than complained about by individual contributors.
    * Keep up the benefits. They promote cross-department collaboration.

    Pros

    1) Many tape out products keep you busy all year long, even weekends if you like;
    2) Sometimes you can try new ideas;
    3) Control whole flow of a tapeout;

    Cons

    1) Tight schedule (each year sees 3~5 new tapeout, 2~3 ECO tapeout), no training, no R&D tapeout to test digital feature and architecture, no involvement on defining the product feature, no credit for bug free new tapeout, has penalty for specific group on with bug tapeout.

    2) engineers keep to themselves, no sharing, as promotion sticks to pyramid title levels;

    3) No career path, sub-par and blackbox promotion, compensation, and project assignment, no communication (no feedback after complaint and advice).

    Advice to Management

    Transparent competition, open communication, award fairly.

    Pros

    Wide variety of projects to work on
    Got to practice all stages of an app development
    Got to attend informative meetings

    Cons

    Mostly independent work.
    Felt the projects I did would not have made any impact on the company.
    Employees keep to themselves

    Advice to Management

    Biggest complaint is not being able to work in teams to focus on a larger project at hand. Other than that, everything was managed well.

    Pros

    There's a gym and 401K match (some of the time).

    Cons

    Extremely top-heavy, micromanaging senior management focused on cost-cutting, tracking employees, and taking shortcuts in business decisions.

    Horrible business practices and ethics plague this company - if you want to do your work with a good conscience and still keep your job, stay away. Processes are non-existent, and major decisions are made on a whim by senior management without any empirical information. There is a complete lack of trust in employees, and every decision must go through long, unnecessary chains of approvals before anything ever gets done. Extremely cheap, cost-cutting attitude from management means that no investment will be made in systems or processes, so everything is built from the ground up and thus takes far longer than it should.

    Employees are essentially treated like machines and are conditioned to fear upper level management. If you speak up, or stand up for what is ethical or right, you will be chastised for it. Certain executives are exceptionally rude, arrogant, demeaning, and unethical to others within the company. Multiple complaints have apparently been made to HR, but no action has been taken since management is apparently under special protection. HR seems to turn a blind eye to employees, and actually encourages managers to skew the performance ratings of their employees down. (Thus justifying the withholding of potentially deserved raises, etc.)

    NO potential mobility unless you are involved with company politics (or have an "in" with senior management). Employees have been fired outright for trying to switch departments. Absurd "Badge-in" and "Badge-out" policy tracks when employees enter and exit the building. This information is compiled into a report that gets sent to VP's. VP's actually spend time reviewing this, and use that information to enforce employees' time (yes, all full time, salaried employees) through their performance reports. All employees must be in the building at 9:30AM or they will be flagged and their VP will hassle them. NO flexibility of schedule, NO working from home or remotely (though you are expected to be on-call 24/7 and carry your company phone and laptop everywhere).

    In short:
    You will be treated poorly. You will not have the right tools to do your job. The environment is toxic. Stay away!

    Advice to Management

    Move away from the arrogant, top-heavy management style, and start treating employees with respect. It's no surprise that the turnover seems extremely high. Stop focusing on cost-cutting, and start investing in employees. Stop micromanaging and start empowering. Do NOT let unethical business and HR practices slide.

    Pros

    Managers, co-workers and engineers from other department are generally nice and easy-going. Company business is quite stable. No need to worry about layoffs as long as you do your work.

    Cons

    Old-man style company culture. Too many senior employees and not willing to leave, so almost no opportunity for young people. Job becomes very boring after a few years. This company is definitely not a good place for new graduates or people who wants inspirations.
