I worked at OmniVision Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If your engineering background is in this technology (CMOS sensors), fantastic opportunities to learn, though expect to work hard.

    Cons

This is predominantly a Chinese-culture. Non-Chinese may find it difficult to have their contributions be considered and it will be difficult to collaboratively brainstorm as most of your peers will be speaking in Mandarin.
A relative of the founder, though unqualified, continues to have pervasive presence and influence over day-to-day operations. Their decisions are based more on sentimentality than objective thought and most every employee fears them... rightfully so as to be on their bad side means a short career at the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Someone speak up to the CEO. Nepotism has cost the company more than they have brought in.

    Pros

Employees enjoy free coffee, tea and cup o noodles. They use to match the employees 401k contributions, but that's not guaranteed these days. Compensation was ok.

    Cons

OmniVision says it's an 'American' company, but feels like you work in a Chinese factory. We are expected to badge in and out every time we leave the building. Micromanaged constantly in EVERY department. There is no opportunity for growth unless you are related to the CEO (ask his daughter) or are Chinese. Stay away from this place. I've never worked at such a toxic and backwards company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please do not promote people based on their race and soley on the fact that they were with OmniVision from the beginning. Loyalty to the company does not mean they are qualified to run departments.

I worked at OmniVision Technologies as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    Flexible with my schedule
    Friendly environment
Management was kind and willing to help me learn the business
    I was overpaid

    Cons

The building was 75% empty while I was there and my cubicle was on the fringe of the rest of the employees. In an attempt to save energy they kept most of the lights off in areas that didn't have any employees. Since I was on the fringe my cubicle was only partially lit.

I worked at OmniVision Technologies as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Very fast pace environment. You will never be bored. This was a great experience in an interesting environment.

    Cons

Culture is not very diverse. Contracted for nearly one year. They always seem to hire only contract for this position. Although it was a contract to hire position, the department manager has no control over the conversion and was not able to get my conversion approved by upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
