Be wary of nepotism and increased workload with fewer employees.

    I worked at Omnicare

    Pros

PTO is awesome, health and dental benefits are great for full time employees.
They allow you to expand to all areas within the pharmacy.

    Cons

Smaller branches have family members working together, and spouses making out in the hallways. Complaints go in one war and out of the other.
They discriminate against people with chronic illnesses and show a complete lack of empathy towards it's employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take employee complaints seriously

    I worked at Omnicare

    Pros

Most of the customers (that are forced to use Omnicare because of a national contract) very nice people and a pleasure to work with.

Benefits are average (what a person would expect from a corporation)

    Cons

In a constant state of change (the idea is that change is ALWAYS better). I say this because there was a conference call that was randomly held and 30-50 people were fired instantly because the "position was evaluated and it is no longer needed."

A lot of unhappy customers--if you hear different, check the data they are using.

Only work for Omnicare if it is better than no job. If you have a choice between Omnicare and another company, choose the other company.

This review was purely created from the way Omnicare treats their customers and their employees. This review was created from a slightly angry former employee, but most of their customers would tell you the same information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Omnicare will never compare to the service/care that a nursing or assisted-living facility would obtain from using a local pharmacy that knows each person by name and would go above-and-beyond for nursing/staff at that facility.

A customer is a number or "account" with Omnicare. To the local pharmacy, the facility is a name with faces and emotions/feelings.

I do not want to give advice to management because that would be helping them. All I can say is your job could be gone tomorrow with no notice!!

    Pros

Decent starting wage, good amount of PTO

    Cons

Nearly everything else. Inflexible with scheduling, refusal to listen to advice from another shift, dishonest business practices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You may be well within your right to treat your employees how you want, but you shouldn't.

I worked at Omnicare full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people that I directly worked with were wonderful. In the beginning, it was a very good company to work for and the software design was excellent.

    Cons

Low pay, new structure and new management did not care about loyal employees who had been there for 14 plus years. Morale down in office. Worry of outsourcing and RIF's.

I have been working at Omnicare full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - Benefits and vacation time start right away
    - Plenty of opportunities for overtime
    - More vacation time offered for your first year than most companies offer

    Cons

    - Not much room for advancement
    - Managers act like friends instead of doing their job
    - Employees are overworked and underpaid
    - Raises are a joke
    - Too much drama amongst co-workers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually care about your employees and give them raises that a person a can live off of. Offer more opportunities for growth. Create a friendly atmosphere for employees to work in. Train managers to do their job correctly and how to reward or discipline employees when needed.

I worked at Omnicare full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good, the work itself is challenging and interesting, received merit increases pretty quickly

    Cons

After working for two different departments in Omnicare I noticed that they were managed like two totally different companies. My first manager was very hands off and let the department sink, but my second manager was a control freak that micromanaged every aspect of everyone's day. The attendance policy is awful and unforgiving and encourages turn over. Tried to get a medical exception for sudden health problems and it took four months to get approved. Had to schedule tests and procedures around work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees aren't robots and can't be managed off "data". Just because one person can do 15 claims one hour during one day doesn't mean everyone can average that all the time.

    Pros

two 15 min breaks one 30 min break, plenty of PTO, multiple shifts to choose from.

    Cons

work-life balance, management always clash with each other so it never seems organized. there is no such thing as leadership in at this facility and a lot of favoritism , either they do not care or dont believe in communication. there is no place for advancement. no fault point system, if i crash, its still a point. ridiculous

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Omnicare

    Pros

The company is in a great industry with tremendous upside. Healthcare industry in prescription drugs with a population with aging demographics. Everyone has an opportunity to make an impact to improve the operations of the company to the benefit of employees and shareholders. The company has made great strides but it happens with fits and starts and is not consistently maintained.

    Cons

The company has been challenged to overcome prior management's running of the company and the demons of the past 2000 - 2009. The technology systems and primary applications are severely outdated and investments in new technologies have yet to make an impact. Constant change in leadership has made employees feel less stable in their positions as each change brings structural changes, new middle management promotions, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to management's direct reports, they have the real story. Senior management is made up of primary "yes" men who are too fearful to tell the top executives how the business is going.
