Pros
Smart people. Nice people. Great market. Fabulous customers. I'm really shocked at how big this company can become. Omniture has done a admirable job adapting over the years and with the opportunity to finally bring automation to all companies that are trying to be successful online, I'm going to stay on this ride for quite a long time.
Cons
Much is expected but I like that. Some people aren't cut out for that. Customers are demanding, but the fact that Omniture in general listens to the customers is probably the secret to the historical and future success.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up! Tell us more.
Pros
No company like it! Where else can you get experience helping every huge name on the internet? This place gives novice and experienced workers alike the chance to grow and stretch their abilities. There's also a strong collaborative mindset, and people have the chance to devise solutions and be inventive.
Cons
There's an unwritten expectation that nobody is truly off work. Emails fly into my blackberry 24/7. They say, Family comes first, but the folks who are getting the raises, promotions, and huge bonuses at company parties are those who come early, stay late, and log back in when they get home. The few who really knock off at 'quittin' time' will never get rewarded.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up! You're all doing an amazing job, but don't forget to keep it real. You may be rich, but you're not cooler than the rest of us.
Pros
Innovative and fast moving company with truly nice, helpful employees. People at Omniture go out of their way to help others and they provide amazing training resources. The office is very fun and laid back and the Omniture celebrations are second to none.
Cons
Benefits are not as great as a larger company but getting better each year. Pay is not as high as more established companies, but the work environment makes up for much of that. Omniture has grown tremendously and if you are not prepared to be in a fast paced envirnment, it might not be the place for you.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep on doing what you are doing and ultimately trurn towards increased profitability...
Pros
Omniture provides an environment that is laid-back but where you still get a lot done. They've worked hard to make it a place where you enjoy coming into work. The selection process is fairly rigorous (especially for Utah). So you have the opportunity to work with people who are as competent as you.
Cons
Communication can be a bit rough at times. Requirements change regularly. Fortunately, management owns up to this (generally), rather than expecting us to read their minds. One must definitely be flexible and willing to see a month of work go down the drain because the goals have changed.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up!
Pros
The culture, the intelligence of the people and the passion for the products and the work for the clients.
Cons
There really aren't any. If anything, it's that the benefits are more tailored to younger, single people than to families.
Advice to Senior Management
None at all. The sharing of key information and encouragement is great.
Pros
It is very challenging and pushes me to learn new things. The relationship of the employees is great. People work and play together and there is great camaraderie. Employees play soccer, paintball, frisbee, and volleyball together during the day. They also play computer games (such as Team Fortress and Unreal Tournament).
Cons
Sometimes, management asks the impossible or they change their minds on what they want. They ask for your opinion on what can get done, and then it feels like they didn't listen. This doesn't happen all the time but when it does, it is frustrating and requires a lot of extra time.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay more attention to the amount of engineering it will take to accomplish what you ask for.
Pros
The benefits. There is a game room where employees can play any number of games during downtime and breaks. Employees can play Guitar Hero (which is projected onto the wall with 4 projectors). breakfast is provided on Mondays and lunch is provided on Fridays. The benefits are outstanding for a Utah company.
Cons
In the past, Omniture has focused much more on feature development for their products than on quality, though this is changing.
Advice to Senior Management
From what I've seen, Senior Management seems very experienced and professional, yet they also know how to have fun. Above all, it's apparent that they want to keep their employees, because they treat them so well.
Pros
1) Analytics is the future of many businesses. Getting in during the early days is a bonus.
2) $$$
3) Nice office and benefits in skiing capital of the world!
Cons
It is growing very fast right now, but fast growth needs to be well managed. Company does not support Macs.
Advice to Senior Management
Manage the growth and scalability. Focus on the admin and HR.
Pros
It's a well-known and well-respected company. We play hard and we work hard. The management here is excellent. They get things done. Compared to other jobs I have, I've never seen things taken more seriously and worked on so pro actively. They also take into consideration enhancements that would make your job easier and better. And after taking into consideration those concerns and requests, they actually do them.
Omniture also plays hard. Appreciation is shown through rewards and activities. The parties are well thought out and lots of fun.
Also, Omniture contributes to the community and other organizations. They are known to be generous and looked at as a coveted place to work in the community, especially among the local college students.
Cons
As with every software company, there are bugs. Getting past those bugs and having to deal with frustrated clients can be a chore. Although many are resolved rather quickly, there are many that take time to fix. Because of the nature of the software, these drawn-out bugs can have a huge impact on customer satisfaction and retention.
Advice to Senior Management
To do more testing before releases and to speed up the bug-fixing process. Also, to pay a bit more for technical support because we do most of the client-facing issues and keep Omniture alive.
Pros
Wonderful work environment! The motto at Omniture is "Mean People Suck" and they are not kidding. Everyone here has been very warm and welcoming to me. Omniture provides a very competitive pay and bonus structure to potential hires. Additionally, the experience and knowledge you receive through our onsite Omniture University gives a young professional an edge in web analytics experience. Web Analytics is a relatively new and growing area of professionals. Through your experience here, your acquired knowledge becomes a very valuable and sought after asset of most every company in the world.
Regarding work/life balance, Omniture is superior to any other company I have heard of. In addition to the hiring bonus (options), Omniture gives a $1,000 baby bonus along with 2 weeks paid paternal leave. If you adopt a child, Omniture pays a bonus of $4,000 per child. There is a $1,000 bonus both for those employees that refer a friend that gets hired and for those employees that purchase a hybrid vehicle. Taking time off is never a problem too. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and the fact that I will be out of the office on a honeymoon for 10 days has never been addressed as an issue.
Omniture is an excellent place to work! If a person wants to rapidly increase his knowledge about web analytics/online marketing, this would be the ideal place to work.
Cons
Unique to Omniture (as opposed to many other large, growing companies) is the fact that our headquarters is located a bit off the beaten track - Orem, UT. Orem is a great city, but I wish we were headquartered in a larger city like San Francisco - where I, as a Business Consultant, would be in closer touch to my clients.
With Omniture's rapid growth over the past few years (fastest growing software technology company on the stock exchange), there has been both organic and acquisition-based growth. At times, I feel like a little fish in the ever-expanding Omniture pond. Even though, it is wonderful to see how well we are doing and how far we are expanding our reach.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior Management has been ideal in getting giving new hires the opportunity to mingle and meet them. But since I have worked here, the senior manager over me has not once greeted me or welcomed me to the team. I have worked here for nearly four months and I do understand how very busy this person is, but it would be nice to know that he recognizes my role here at Omniture.
Also, I think we have grown out of our current location. If I were them, I would look into ways of perhaps moving to a different location or building a completely new Omniture campus. Most likely, this has been discussed by them but I am just now aware of everything that goes into decisions like these or what decisions are currently being explored.
One last bit of humorous advice - everyday, I walk by the reserved parking for the senior executives and I must say that they need to get a little more creative in their luxury car purchases. Of course, I am kidding about this but it is funny how many of them tend to buy the same/very similiar vehicles. :)
