I worked at OnX Enterprise Solutions full-time

    Pros

Excellent working conditions, competitive pay. Friendly work environment.

    Cons

Lack of management direction. Weak services & architecture bench with too much reliance on contractors and out-sourcing. Too much turnover. Training only when required for the companies benefit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your word to your employees. Continuing to reduce your bench and technical resources may be good for the bottom line and please the owners, but is affecting Onx' reputation. The word is getting out.

    Pros

You can work from home most of the time and pretty much do what you want.

    Cons

I am in a technical SE role. If you don't create your role and build your opportunities you won't have any.
Don't wait for any management, it doesn't exist. It's a Sales Organization.
I have been here 7 months and I still don't know what the direction of the company is.
It's a nice place to 'stop over' in your career, don't plan to stay too long, you won't have much 'real experience' left.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop and build your organization's culture first, then make sure that everyone is on the same page.
Read Glass Door. Everyone is pretty much saying the same thing.
Onx needs to FOCUS on one or two things.

    Pros

New CEO has great vision, attitude, and people trust and believe in him.

    Cons

Theory X management style, creates toxic work environment where employees know management has no interest in their future, only in the "number" you can produce. Furthermore, management's verbal abuse towards employees is the most horrific I have ever seen. No effort to even pretend to care about anyone's passions, career goals, path, or future, just doom and gloom if the number isn't met, or goo job, work harder to meet the bigger number. And by the way, the Holiday party is a pot luck- that's corporate policy. The culture is almost as if we were in a third world country. All management tactics are fear, threats, and barriers to success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get new management and people wouldn't be resigning, and you may be able to hire decent people. This could help change the culture and transform the place where employees actually trust and respect their management and have things like passion, dedication, and loyalty. Look at your competitors and get honest, buying a company and saying we now have a "differentiator" when in fact, all legitimate competitors have been doing this for years, only makes us a "me too" and "late to the game". Realize that we are becoming bottom feeders and do something to change it.

    Pros

Great Company with solid ideas. Allowed the people in the field to do their job without a lot of oversight.

    Cons

Bought off more than they could chew. Had no idea what they were getting into when they bought Agilysys TSG.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at OnX Enterprise Solutions full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Many really good managers and VPs
    - Excellent portfolio of goods and branded solutions
    - Excellent relationships with key vendors
    - Affords a lot of flexibility
    - 20+ consecutive quarters of profitability
    - Willing to invest if the numbers make sense

    Cons

    - Comp plans are sub-market for both SA and AE; they do make a few exceptions for top performers.
    - Marlin Equity is far too involved in running the business, a business they have no practical experience with, and do understand. Marlin does not understand the organic nature of a sales organization and that it can, and will, react to change. If you squeeze sales people, they stop selling and move on, and the "asset" drops yet again in value.
    - Finance in Canada has a choke hold on the company, and it's retarding the business
    - Canadians in general are not so quick with the communications (like a black hole, stuff goes in but never comes out). There are a few exceptions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Get some distance from Marlin before they tank the company, too many cooks in the kitchen
    - Empower the field, move more functions to the edge and let the regions/branches sort it out
    - Pay your sales team; you get what you pay for. Weak pay plans = weak sales performance. Until you learn that, you will be trying to cut your way to success, and that is a losing strategy.
    - You can't run the US like you run Canada; it's different country. Duh.
