I worked at Ontario-Montclair School District
Pros – Staff majority is kind, courteous and professional. Excellent starting pay.
Cons – Poor custodial utilities, and materials. More money is spent on furnature for administrators then spent on working cleaning dispensers, and more effective cleaning utilities. Many head custodians in over 25 schools I have worked for tend to assign more rooms, or dirty specific rooms to substitutes, as they have no truly district deligated work areas, technically you can be assigned to clean the entire school without any legal or ethical laws being broken. Additionally permanant custodians tend to take their days off just before having to clean students, teachers, and staff parties. Be ready to clean up large messes sometimes forgotten about for 1-2 weeks.
Advice to Senior Management – Substitute contracting should be mandatory within buisness hours, far too often teachers, and staff wait till the last minute to contract out a substitute job. If a substitute is brought on the job in an emergency capacity, they should be paid for the entire shift even if called late to the shift. I recieved phone calls for jobs, in which that shift have already begun, and if I declined the job, it would count as a strike against my contract, despite the remaining time on the job not being worth trip worth and it being the equivilent to working at a Mcdonalds for minumum wage.
