I worked at Operation Par (More than 3 years)

    Pros

good place to get experience in the field after graduation. I worked in the methadone clinic, research department, interned at the academy, and worked in outpatient. methadone clinic was great, research department horrific with sociopathic managers (this was back in 2009, not sure how it is now). academy and outpatient were fine. pay is extremely low, poverty level pretty much, even with a Masters Degree. making twice as much now with a different company and same job. but it's a great place to start right after college.

    Cons

low money. some awful managers, as to expect with any company.

    Advice to Management

increase pay. to the research employees- don't be psychopaths. still have nightmares.

    Pros

Management is very appreciative of my work and are willing to let me learn more about the things I am interested in. I'm often given praise for a job well done.

    Cons

Unfortunately the pay isn't very high for the amount of work that I do.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work,

I have been working at Operation Par full-time

    Pros

To get your foot in the door as a counselor and learn about methadone and what it can or cannot do for heroine addicts.

    Cons

Overworked and underpaid, some nasty employees.

    Advice to Management

It's not worth giving advice because it won't be followed up on.

I worked at Operation Par full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

An amazing opportunity to help those in need. A good place to start for recent grads.

    Cons

Compensation was abysmal Training was lacking Supervision was lacking Essentially two kinds of people work there... the lifers (employed for more than two years) and those that are actively searching for better employment (don't trust the lifers)

    Advice to Management

Improve staff retention. The high rate of turnover only hurts patients and hampers their progress.

I have been working at Operation Par full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good experience, somewhat flexible schedule, good co-workers, possibility of being provided with qualified supervisor for advanced degrees seeking licensure which is a $3,000+ bonus to salary, if a qualified supervisor is not available then they will reimburse you up to $40 per individual supervision OR up to $20 for group (this is for LMHC, LCSW licensure supervision), one time awards for receiving associates, bachelor, or masters degree, certification and intern license and small hourly wage increase for CAP, CPP, IMH/ISW, or CBHT. Hourly employment - good so if overtime you are paid, but no current overtime

    Cons

Little support, cliques like high school, pay is surprisingly low for advanced degrees, takes advantage of master level counselors who need post-master hours for licensure, hourly employment - have to clock in and out for everything. No overtime, difficult to move up

    Advice to Management

Pay employees fair/livable wages, supervise supervisors

    Pros

Fast Paced and an awesome staff.

    Cons

    Low pay and high caseloads.

    Advice to Management

Upper management has been shaky in the past, but things are beginning to change. The environment has been very hostile in the past, but things are getting better.

I have been working at Operation Par full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The staff and colleagues at Operation Par are fantastic for the most part. Most of them want to help and serve those who struggle with addiction. It takes a special heart in a person to care for this population. Most of the counsellors at PAR have huge hearts. There is a LOT of untapped talent among the staff at Par. Sadly the organization as a whole will never realize this. There are staff with the community, political, and social connections to revolutionize Par as it now stands.

    Cons

The pay is embarrassingly insulting, especially for the counsellors with advanced degrees. You will be treated like children by upper management. There is no real incentive to work at Par long term. Nearly all of the current staff are actively looking for employment elsewhere. Morale is awful, which the management thinks they can change or shape with an annual "staff retreat" day. Want to really improve morale? Give staff the day off. The turnover at Par is UNBELIVIBLE and one would think management would learn from but it is not the case. Do yourself a favor and avoid the dysfunctional organization that is Par. One exception would be if you are a recent undergraduate seeking short term experience. Many of the staff are clinically depressed. The management is very much responsible for this.

    Advice to Management

Pay your counsellors a living wage. PLEASE. Your counsellors should not have to work a second job and sacrifice just to keep working for you. Treat your people with respect and dignity, like you claim to want to do with your patients. Retire the director of the MAPS program. Really you should have retired him 10 years ago. Learn to treat your people with respect.

I have been working at Operation Par full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Helping people to overcome a problem and being able to deal with it,

    Cons

Staff all seem to have their own agenda and there are those of us who are fearful of losing our jobs if we say anything. There are policy and procedures to follow but that all depends on who you are and if they feel like following them on that day. Payroll is suppose to be private, don't really have a problem with the lower pay rate because I am helping people. However when people that are higher up are spreading around what people make it is very unsettling to me. Fear of retaliation keeps anyone from going to higher ups with any concerns.

    Advice to Management

Take a close look at what is happening in the clinic, what use to be a wonderful work environment is becoming very hostile and honestly is becoming difficult to come to work every day. Take a look and please get things back to helping the patients and staff should feel secure and the politics have no place in the work environment.

I have been working at Operation Par full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Operation Par gets some excellent talent but they quickly leave. The interaction with staff and colleagues is the best part of the work.

    Cons

You will be paid about what a call center employee makes immediately out of high school IF you have a masters degree. The pay is atrocious especially considering what you must put up with. You are a temporary expendable employee. Do NOT plan to make a career at Operation Par. They care nothing about their employees and it shows best in the dismal salaries. The management and higher at Par get paid well. Par is a sinking ship. Avoid at all costs! Also, hardly a week goes by that the police and ambulance don't get called. VERY dangerous environment. I fully expect to see Par on the news one day when an addict goes on an angry killing spree at one of the facilities.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees a living wage. Don't have the money? Close programs to fund proper salaries if you need to. Treat your people right BEFORE you expand. Your employees are beat down. It is your fault and you must do something about it.
