I worked at Oplink Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay checks won't bounce. But on other side, they go over expense reports like your asking for gold given back in return

    Cons

CEO likes to yell at all. But if you don't understand Chinese. Don't worry. He'll yell at you at that. One time he yelled at one guy in Chinese for an hour in front of everyone. Saw him throw a girls phone against a wall. Only thing worse than his temper is his lack of thoughts. He tells everyone what to do. And he will not listen to people or things. He only want his idea and he change his "mandatory" ideas every other day. He yells at you if you leave after only nine hour work hours for reason like family. And yells at people for not going to "volunteer" Saturday meetings where he yells and talks more Chinese for no reason than having people in the room and under control for six days instead of only 5. You will learn nothing at this place.

    Advice to Management

Tell CEO his child behavior is not good. Maybe to be against the law. And just makes him look bad.

    Cons

you will never be promoted or raised management only cares about making money and not its employees

    Advice to Management

please reward your people sometimes. they will work harder for you that way.

The 6-7 day work week leaves no room for work-life balance.

I worked at Oplink Communications full-time

    Pros

The company offers a wide range of benefits. Free lunch is provided at Monday meetings and free dinners are provided Monday through Thursday.

    Cons

The free dinner is likely just a tactic to get people to stay and work extended hours. You are expected to leave no earlier than 6 PM and you are expected to work all Saturdays and some Sundays for a long, exhausting 6-7 day work week. There really is no work-life balance. And it is important to note that the positive reviews about this company sound exactly like things the CEO or upper management would say.

  10. Great opportunity...

I worked at Oplink Communications full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

great opportunity to work with team full of very nice people; great opportunity to fill up those boring Saturdays by working the expected 6 days a week. great opportunity to enjoy Chinese food & culture, free dinner daily; immersion technique to learn Mandarin. nicest co-workers, I will miss them.

    Cons

do not expect normal business processes, reasonable project timelines, collateral approval process, or work issue resolution. only 1 persons opinion matters, and it will not be yours, even if it's under your area of responsibility. having lunch in groups with co-workers outside of office is discouraged to the point of being feared.

    Advice to Management

there is no point giving advice to management. they know what the problem is and make excuses for it every day, but they can not do anything about it.

  11. No idea how this company wasn't ranked as one of the top companies to work for

I have been working at Oplink Communications full-time

    Pros

If you're willing to learn, working here is like getting an MBA, JD, and PhD all at once.

    Cons

Not for you if you're lazy, useless or generally are not interested in attending lectures everyday.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work
