    Pros

Optos is a company with an excellent product. Great opportunity to grow a business line. Relatively small team, so you can have an outsize impact on the business.

    Cons

Budgets are always upside down. Despite growing at 10-20% per year, the company always manages to have higher expectations for growth, which makes for a constant struggle to make the numbers. Quarter after quarter, you're always just slightly behind.

    Advice to Management

Better to set realistic expectations, and hit them, rather than constantly being behind the 8-ball.

    Pros

The employees were treated well, there were snacks in the break room. Every month there was a company meeting with pizza. My pay was better than I would expect for the type of work I was doing.

    Cons

For me the only con was I was over qualified for the position. I had just gotten my engineering degree and needed a job while I looked for something I could start my career with.... There was some heavy lifting but nothing too bad.

    Cons

    Pros

The technology is amazing and the people I work with were great.

    Cons

Not a lot of advancement growth for females. Plus, it looks like as soon as they promote someone they lay them off a few months later.

    Advice to Management

Treat your lower level employees with the same respect you treat upper management when laying someone off.

    Pros

Advancement was attainable quickly, and hard work was recognized. It felt like a family owned company at the time I was there

    Cons

Travel was extensive and promises of reduced territory did not pan out.

    Advice to Management

Company has made many changes since my departure.

    Pros

Great Medical device experience in Optometry in engineering, training, and sales. Possible advancement opportunities, business travel (everywhere). Great benefits. Good people

    Cons

You can travel and work weekend, after hours and management won't notice or investigate. It's very easy to be missed in the hard work you do for them.

    Advice to Management

Recognize the people who do more than the 9-5. Understand that Field Service is more important than you realize. Find stars in the company that you meet outside of the conventions.

    Pros

Have great technology in a specific health sector, that is impressive to many ocular specialists.

    Cons

Outside of this specific area they suffer, could almost be seen as a one trick pony. Publicly well known exclusivity agreement with large retail chain hurt other markets, and as a result went through 7 sales staff in the 4 regions in 15 months. Lots of unhappiness and insecurity in that department.

    Advice to Management

USA style management practices do not work in AUS. Recognise market shifts and not to and force previous forecasts in other market segments that are declining due to massive success in another.
