Pros
Large healthcare technology company with a definite vision and desire to dominate their space. Having United Health Group as a parent adds capital along with potential customer revenue for your business unit.
Cons
Integration process can be lengthy and disruptive if you were just acquired, including marketing support which can lag behind even more. If your unit and solution wasn't best of breed within your niche prior to being acquired, you will struggle for a time. Having United Health Group as a parent can possibly cost you opportunities if your healthcare clients struggle with them as a payor.....
Advice to Senior Management
Keep working on optimum ways to leverage existing client relationships by motivating them financially to take a serious look at each new business unit you on-board.
Pros
*Good Pay for the work
Cons
*Office about to move to a traffic-jammed area (oh wait for the holidays near this popular mall area!)
*Hiring the wrong people out of desperation when entire groups quit
*You have to first suck, then do something competent to be hailed as an award-winning good worker - The consistantly good people who clean up other people's messes and avoid their own are never recognized.
*A Health Insurance owned company that has horrible benefits
Advice to Senior Management
You better quickly try to save the few good ones that remain because it is openly discussed that most are looking for other jobs. It's not all about money, sometimes people just want the recognition and the opportunity to EARN more money.
Pros
Our benefits for employee stock purchase and vacation time are really great.
Cons
Technically working on older systems , no support for new technologies like 64 bit OS's or state of the art software tools.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more individual contributors that get things done. Too many managers and not enough workers. Also we change leadership every year and that becomes a big hassle.
Pros
The salary is okay.
Opportunities to learn other training skills.
Ability to work from home - depending on the manager
Cons
Benefits are poor - very few options.
Senior leadership lacks any managerial skills and poor communication skills.
Too much turnover in the company.
Pros
It's easy to get to when traffic is bad. There is plenty of sunshine in the building due to the open window and cube space, and there is free coffee that is ready to be made every morning. The refrigerator is cleaned biweekly by caring employees who have a great concern for hygene and the carpet smells good. Bathrooms are clean also.
Cons
Management does not uphold unwritten promises to employees, backbiting is common place, and as a nursing mother I was treated shabbily.
Work/Life balance seems to not be taken into consideration at all.
Compensation is used like a hammer to try to get you to perform above your paygrade as if you don't deserve what you work hard for.
Managerial Bullying seems to be part of the culture.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn your laws, keep your promises, treat your staff with respect.
Pros
Co-workers are knowledgeable, flexible with time off, open to suggestions
Cons
Health Benefits are lousy. For being owned by United Health Care you would think they would offer theri employees better coverage.
Advice to Senior Management
If you want us to meet goals, you have to learn to share information how the department, unit, section, company is doing. You want us to better ourselves but are not willing to pay for training.
Pros
The 401K employer match (up to a certain percentage).
Ability to telecommute if your manager will actually let you.
Employee stock purchase plan.
Somewhat flexible schedule.
Cons
Considering this company is owned by United Health Group which owns UnitedHealthcare, the insurance package offered is shockingly lousy. One would think some of the best packages UnitedHealthcare has would at least be offered to employees of their sister company. Not the case. High deductible plans are all that are offered and the cost of the benefits doubled this year if you don't complete an annual health screening and pass the minimum requirements in order to receive "discounts" on your premiums.
Short staffed and overworked. Additional responsibilities are always being added to your plate even though you are already doing the work of multiple people. Mandatory overtime which makes the pay more attractive but hinders with work/life balance. Management seems to be apathetic to your heavy workload because of the overtime. They don't seem to get that all of the responsibilites cannot be completed regrdless of how much overtime is worked.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. Stop treating them like you want to run them off.
Pros
Benefits are good. PTO is generous and must be taken or it's lost.
Cons
Constant reorganization causing major financial losses because projects started never get finished. In a constant state of starting stuff and changing directions.
Advice to Senior Management
Need some real ones that do more than puff smoke. Lack of leadership is rampant throughout the organization which is based on old boys network and nepotism. Slavitt is clueless to what's really happening in the organization. No one ever asks the people who actually do the work.
Pros
Nice Location in Eden Prairie, MN
Good Food at the Cafetaria
Cons
Metrics
Quality suffers due to Quantity/Volume - people who cheat the system though can "fly by" the radar
Leadership - ALL female middle management whose expectations and assistance varies
Extra work - "Required" overtime
Lack of Advancement, Pay, Bonus, Rewards...
Poor (deficient) Benefits for a Healthcare Company!
High Turnover - always short team members, so more work for others
Advice to Senior Management
New Middle Management - revised goals based on reality, not construed numbers and take into account the unpaid OT salaried ee's 'have' to work - operate at full staff - turnover is extremely high for such a profitable part of the business...
Pros
Flexible work schedule - not much else.
Cons
Benefits are awful
Pay is marginal
Little to no room for advancement
Be prepared to be overworked - you will most likely have to do your job as well as someone elses
Advice to Senior Management
Treat all employees fairly and pay them competitively. Communicate more effectively and offer more room for advancement. Promote people who deserve it - not just those who kiss the most a$$.
