I have been working at Opus Software Solutions full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    nice delivery team
    very helpful
    learning curve is fast
    great support structure in Chennai
    good salary
    top management is also good
good security arrangement for women folks
    Delivery team is best
onsite colleagues and set up is much better than offshore
people onsite are more happy with system, delivery team and Even HR for a change not best but ok lol
    all people good in technolgy

I worked offshore then moved onsite 1-2 years ago

    Cons

    biggest problem is communication
    no decision makers only talkers
    mid management is useless
don't want to put HR down but they don't know how to talk
company will do far better with better communication and more clients
    all clients in one basket
when that clients is unhappy all are down
useless sales folks - they have not sold since years
urgently send folks on temp visa without really finding out the problem.
    spend money without thinking

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management should look below the mid management and see who is unhappy and why, they are only concerned about mid management
treat employees as employees and not machines.
company can grow to great heights if they move with the right people and let go of some useless guys.

I worked at Opus Software Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked with Opus in India and then moved to USA. Had a lot of problems with my visa because of all the great folks taking care of it - Delivery Head's and of course the great HR folks who have no clue of what they are doing. They try and give some basic training without being trained on it. Sad thing HR has never traveled to USA and dont know anything and teach others.
    people are very good
    very hard working
    delivery support is fantastic
u can be expert on single technology JAVA

    Cons

No system or training in place since years
    No planing done for anything
random projects come in and we have to stay late nights to finish it.
recognition process is horrible - even after you do great HR comes and tells you "sorry we cannot add more to this list and you will be in next time"
they have less money to spend on recognition which is couple of thousand rupees but will spend good 8-10 lakhs on a party.
no new project so you work on same technology
no career plans - they never have a appraisal only discussion when salary is asked.
no timing in office - come and go when you want no one catches because DM's, PM's, HR no one is in office before 10 am.
recently appraisal letters with salary info were sent to wrong people - was a big issue and should be avoided

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior Mgmt folks are at a very high salary and no related KRA's and this you come to know in parties when their category folks are drunk and talk about it.
Onsite is team is much better but most are scared to take decisions

I worked at Opus Software Solutions full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Relationships at Opus are centered around trust, loyalty, with a keen impetus on learning and developing oneself. You tend to meet a relatively high number of tenured employees that speak passionately about Opus. This kind of general attitude has to but rub off on anyone looking to make a career here. A special mention has to be made of the Management, and the HR/ Recruitment team in the US, who I believe have had a major hand in earning that trust and a keen sense of loyalty among Opus' employees (including mine) in the US.

    Cons

Have had an overall positive experience during my tenure at Opus..

I have been working at Opus Software Solutions full-time

    Pros

    Good Co-workers.
Small company so access to senior management is easier
Decisions once taken are implemented quicker
    Onsite resources are good
Projects are handled better at onsite

    Cons

These are not exactly Cons but should be taken in the right spirit as improvement opportunities.

    1. Lack of Management skills (Most management people are good technically)
    2. Lack of proper organization of teams
    3. Process not implemented properly or not followed
    4. Systems and tools not defined properly or not aligned with the actual needs
    5. Wasting the intellectual capacity available with the existing employees since there is no proper forum to ensure knowledge is retained and shared and dispersed within the organization
    6. No defined process to promote innovation. Simply asking for innovation does not lead to innovation. Need to have a system in place accessible to all employees at offshore or onsite who can them log their ideas and suggestions. Management needs to spend time in going over the ideas and allocating resources to select ideas which can help the company.
    7. Senior management concentrate less on strategy and more on tactical and operational areas. They need to become and see themselves as more as enablers and ensure that the project delivery teams do not lack the systems, tools, knowledge to address the customer needs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to concentrate more in Strategic Vision, Improving the Process, Improving the Morale of employees, Getting more customers and projects, Understanding the needs of employees(Especially at offshore) and providing a good working environment which is flexible in terms of timing and working from home, Being more open to employee suggestions and drive innovation in the organization by providing an enabling environment and not just dreaming that innovation can take place just by asking for it.
Also need to understand how to engage with employees better to utilize their strengths and place employees in projects/roles where their strengths can be utilized more productively for the company. Management also needs to recognize the systems, tools and processes need to be in place and the Output from the project teams can not be much better than what is provided to them as inputs. Heroism is not a characteristic of self-sustaining organization. Opus should spend more in providing better system tools which are necessary in order to improve productivity and not ask employees to just work on any open systems or freeware and do R&D. If they need to do this have a group of resources who identify the freeware tools and then suggest the best to the project teams. Project teams should concentrate only on delivery and not have to do R&D on systems, processes, tools. Management and onsite also need to be bold enough to tell customers when a deadline is not possible since influencing customers is also a management art and skill which apparently is lacking in Opus. Generally Opus seniors have good technical skills but average management skills barring a few exceptions. They also need to remind themselves to "Counting pennies may lead to loosing opportunities to earn a pound"
