    Pros

Results-oriented culture. Work anywhere so long as you produce and keep clients happy.

    Cons

It's big company so they can be slow to adopt the latest trends in software development.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My company was acquired by Oracle. So a lot of the pros are still getting sorted out. But my company culture so far has remained what it was. It's a fun place to work, with some great people. Time off/work from home policies are great. Plenty of opportunities to help you grow your career and skills.

    Cons

The growing pains of being acquired are currently main drawbacks. Still sorting out how what we've been doing fits in with how they do things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is for Oracle management to learn what tools the acquired companies use that work well and find ways to incorporate those tools into Oracle's list of things needed. Not being able to use much of what we've been using is like going back to working with tech from 1990.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Oracle is a premier software development company that succeeds in spite of themselves. Success comes from very talented people in worker-bee roles.

    Cons

Middle management seems to be ;proof of Peter Principle: people are promoted to their level of incompetency. Although there are some talented directors/senior directors, they are few are far between.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Oracle provides employees with the ability to recognize each other through their social network applications or via quarterly, annually, or anytime awards. There are a lot more job opportunities to move around since Oracle is so big and your work environment differs depending on what office you're in and what group you work with, so it's very diverse. There's a good work-life balance in the department where I work. Oracle also provides funding for quarterly events and is keen on employee satisfaction.

    Cons

There are very rarely any raises. If you want to do anything (move departments, hire someone, get help for a laptop issue), it takes WAY longer than it should for no obvious reason. There are a lot of programs to use to track metrics and such, many of which can be revamped and combined to work more effectively and efficiently. Everything you want to know about how to do something at Oracle is in their network somewhere, but finding the information you need is nearly impossible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Combine some of your internal tools so we're not using 3-4 to do the job that one could do. Don't have error messages that say "You've received an unexpected error. Please contact the System Administrator" and then not tell us who the System Administrator is. I would also recommend revamping how you organize all the data on your intranet so employees can actually find what they're looking for.

    Pros

All IT Technologies are here. Many educational resources.

    Cons

The time to learn more. When you are a billing consultant -- you travel. Not too many hours left in a day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce billing metrics. Career development emphasis for employees

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    1. If you're in a good group, there are lots of very smart people to wor with on a daily basis.
    2. Some of the technology is pretty cool.

    Cons

    1. Your starting salary will be very, very close to your salary 10 years later, so negotiate a good salary up front.
    2. Very, very little equity given out these days, and bonuses are on the scale of 0.5-1%.
    3. Virtually impossible to advance to high IC roles or above senior manager level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in some new blood at the top...this company is atrophying from lack of forward thinking on an executive level.

    Cons

    Amount of travel
    Promotions
    Compensation
    Bonus Plan vs actual payout
    Lots of Middle management
Most Managers and directors of personnel have no P&L responsibility or have impact on direct reports

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at compensation for the worker bee's and get rid of all the middle management.

Product Managers have little influence on direction - engineering run with top down mgt model

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Large company and job fairly secure in development (PMs) are in dev. Org. Annual bonuses are usually given although there are no objectives given which effects what you would get. Manager gets a bonus pool and divides it subjectively across the team. My average bonus over the years has been less than 5 percent of my salary. There are no annual reviews, you get a call once a year from your manager telling you that you do great work and your bonus will be in next weeks check. Women beware woke in at oracle as a product manager, it is an engineering run org and depending on you manager you will be treated differently than your male counterparts...actually it runs rampant.

    Cons

Product managers own the problems and have minimal effect on direction. Wear so many hats, hours can be long to keep up - you must be very technical, must be able to write, present, work with customers to get references, assist sales close business, do competitive research, and much more - latest task is a dev mgr just indicated the PMs need are part of QA process...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Review how women are treated in the development org. Consider having middle management be able to make some decisions as the top down management is amazingly wasteful of talent. Literally, a VP won't make basic decisions until he has been told what to do by a SVP.
