Pros
Businesses use Oracle software. There are great skills to carry over if you want to be a consultant. There is a great work / live balance here. If you are an older tech worker, this is the one of the best places to be.
Cons
Bureaucracy. This company is huge. The lawyers run the show. The CEO thinks too much of himself. We need new blood at this company. At the end of the day, Oracle sells enterprise software.
Advice to Senior Management
Have Larry retire.
Give business units more autonomy.
Do something with Sun Microsystems.
Do something with Java instead of suing other companies.
Focus on 3-4 core businesses.
Pros
This being a product company, there is a lot of openness in sharing the knowledge. Access to lower management is fully available.
Cons
The communication from the management is completely absent. The policy transition is badly handled. There is not transparency in the salary structure. There is no such thing called a HR department. It is only a medium to pass on the management decisions
Advice to Senior Management
The management should be transparent about the HR policies. The transition to new policies should be planned and should be implemented using a bottoms-up approach rather than the other way around.
Pros
Good pay and benefits.
Knowledge and resource availability.
Cons
Progress is shunt.
Work and career development depends on team, team lead and project.
I have been a victim to the above two inspite of attempts to speak out my condition.
Advice to Senior Management
Identify potential resources and give them the chance to grow.
Pros
Leading edge technology, interaction with customers
Cons
Top heavy, little upward motion. Innovation through acqusition
Pros
Nice compensation, good infrestructura and good work enviroment. No neckties policy is good as well. You go abroad for training
Cons
A lot of burocracy. Sometimes I fell lost in such a big company. Sometimes I don't like the location where I am working right now, It should be in the Capital City
Advice to Senior Management
1 on 1 should be done more frequently
Senior Managers should come more offten to hear what their employees think
Pros
Great benefits. Awesome culture. Global company with options to move.
Cons
Customers hate Oracle. Makes the job difficult and mentally stressful.
Advice to Senior Management
Get granular and understand your employees. Management seems to forget the daily challenges when they start climbing the ladder.
Pros
Overall good name and reputation, excellent benefits system compared to standards in Ireland, excellent salary, big product portfolio, excellent sales training, especially Sandler's methodology, excellent canteen, good location in Dublin 3, very centrally located and easy to reach. free bus service provided, free help regarding house-hunting for new employees who re-located to Ireland by an excellent local Agent.
Also, excellent re-location package to Ireland, 2 flights home every year in the first two years, plus re-location cost for shipment of household goods.
Cons
apart from Oracle, the department Oracle Direct has a lot of issues, like unclear and mostly unfair process of how new hires pass on-boarding training exams, unprofessional management, sometimesunfortunately even with alcohol and drug problems, bureaucratic internal processes, rather quick outsoucing and re-location of inside sales jobs from Dublin to the south of Spain only due to funding from the spanish government. There is also a high turnover rate of employees at Oracle Direct.
Advice to Senior Management
I would have wished that Oracle Direct management would have been able to decide more by themselves and to respect employees more. I would also be good if Oracle Direct Management would undergo training on how to lead and respect employees. Clear professional development options from Oracle Direct Ireland or Spain to Oracle into other countries.
Pros
1. Provides good health insurance coverage
2. Takes significant efforts not to layoff employees
3. Offers flexible working hours as well as flexibility to work from home (when not working at the client location)
Cons
1. Salary not at par with the market average
2. Expects relocation to the city where client is located with each new project assignment
Advice to Senior Management
It would be worthwhile investing in building a high calibre offshore team since every project has a significant reliance on offshore team.
Pros
lerning is good for a beginer.
Cons
no work life balance
long working hours
less comp off
no appreciation from PM for hard work
in testing ...there is no lernng for a Technical person
no on-site oppurtunity to Kernel team
Pros
Brand name, unique technical skills and tool, Oracle Products knowledge will help in career outside oracle as products are pervasively deployed.
Cons
development tools, technologies are very rare and quality development work is limited to some groups only. respect for genuine talented engineers is very limited
Advice to Senior Management
treat the talent respectfully, understand their career aspirations. Don't abuse power for your benefit and for frustrating subordinates. keep the healthy working environment.
