I have been working at Oracle

    Pros

Great place to be exposed to new technologies.

    Cons

It's an ocean. You'll need to craft your career path carefully. If you're in consulting, it is not a set career path like the Big 5s.

I worked at Oracle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Surrounded by excellent sales talent
    Fantastic benefits
Wide range of products that are market leading

    Cons

Can be difficult to get things done internally
    Bureaucratic
Company is a slave to quarterly numbers and will drive employees to the brink to get the numbers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire sales people that sell business value, not bully clients into seeing/buying software
Too many Oracle reps all assigned to the same account - drives clients crazy

I worked at Oracle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Oracle provides a good salary and great benefits to its employees. The company is widely known and there are multiple offices across the country.

    Cons

Constant Travel and insufficient training. Management does not look for the best resource to place on a project for a given product. If you are available, you are placed on the project regardless if you have ever worked with the product before. Oracle has a number of product offerings that do not integrate well together. If issues are raised, the sales team is engaged to offer another product. So it is often left to the army of consultants to figure out how to get everything to work together.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more adequate training for your consultants. Place consultants on projects that are in line with their skillset and experience.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Oracle has average pay and benefits. They are in the process of reducing some benefits. Promotions and pay raises are tough to get even for top performers. I believe it is due to HR. For an internal promotion you go through HR, if it's an external candidate they come in via a recruiter. The recruiter probably has much more incentive than internal HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Revisit how internal vs external employees are treated.

    Pros

Amazing range of products, access to technology, training and people. Easy to ramp up personal technical skills. Great people.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic like any other large organization. Every quarter is a new quarter. Past performance does not count only the current quarter

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enforce performance reviews and pay raises to performance. Not subject to manager's fancies

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity for professional growth and networking. Intelligent and efficient managers.

    Cons

What you would expect from a company of this size. There are established processes for everything. Certain actions and approvals can take longer than expected.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Oracle is very clear about what it's selling, and that is anything Oracle. In sales, they are very clear about what it is they want you to do and pay fairly well for success. They do have a tendency to add some sort of "gate" to commission plans that end up managing compensation. Benefits are the best I've ever seen for very low cost.

    Cons

There is no spirit of collaboration at Oracle. Everyone is incented to compete with each other and think of themselves first, the company second, and the customer third. Moving between divisions can be difficult, unless you "know" someone. Initial compensation better be good, because there is no such thing as raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build a more "team" environment, which can be changed by incentive plans.
