Pros
Opportunity to develop ERP skills and development.
Cons
Training is lacking. No bonus for hourly employees.
Pros
Much more cost controlled and metrics driven. Decisions are not made based on emotion or gut feeling. Oracle believes in testing the latest, greatest software internally and that makes a big difference when working on production control systems.
Cons
Oracle believes in controlling decisions at a very detailed level. All financial decisions above $25k required executive management approval which can slow approvals. Integration into their IT systems is extremely slow and painful with little to no support. If you are illiterate in technology in any way, you won't survive.
Advice to Senior Management
Create new avenues of communication between upper and lower levels. The hierarchy is so strictly enforced that ideas rarely make it to the executive levels.
Pros
looks great on resume
involved in most emerging technologies
plenty of resources
great benefits and salary
internal training opportunities
work remotely
easy to switch departments, move into management
Cons
buys and integrates rather than develops software
cutthroat competition among departments and divisions for projects
impersonal
dishonest
Advice to Senior Management
has many failings as a workplace, but is a very successful money making machine - keep up the good work!
Pros
Oracle is a global corporation offering some employment stability in a dark economic climate. The benefits package is good and offers reasonable options. Oracle encourages team oriented activity and growth. Continuing education is offered and encouraged.
Cons
Because of the size of the organization, it is easy for an employee to get lost and dehumanized. Even though continuing education is offered, it is almost impossible to get it approved. Salaries and wages are usually minimal to midline of what the current area market is, and once you have accepted a starting wage it increases a maximum of 3%, and often several years pass by with no raise (irregardless of performance.) Oracle only matches a small portion of the 401K and that match can exclusively be invested in Oracle stock, an exact quote from the benefits page, 50% of your first 6% in contributions, so Oracle is matching your first 6% at 3%, almost nothing.
Advice to Senior Management
Stress teamwork and create an award system that encourages employee's efforts.
Pros
Lot of technologies to play around with. Good people to work with.
Cons
Consulting involves lots of travel and time away from family.
Advice to Senior Management
Dont skimp on training for employees.
Pros
I enjoy the fast pace and flexible working hours. Great working environment.
Cons
Not much opportunity for advancement in some positions. Too process heavy.
Advice to Senior Management
Salaries need to keep pace with inflation. More competitive benefits.
