I worked at Oracle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There are a few reasons to enjoy working at Oracle, one of which is job security. Also there is job consistency. If you can do your job well the first couple of months that you are employed, you can do it well for the rest of your time there. This may sound like a con, but it's not. There is something to be said for finding the right job and doing it well.

    Cons

You're not going to get paid a lot of money. Also, the further you are away from company headquarters, the less likely you will move up the ladder. This is especially true if you are from a company that was acquired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in the employees you have now. Not everyone is replacable.

    Pros

Good product, can learn a lot from the work.
    Good perks for college hires.
Work life balance in some teams.

    Cons

    Bureaucracy
    No transparency in mgmt
    Old technology
    Boring, old styled company culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employee well instead of only focusing on how to find the worst that employees can stand.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's all who you work for. I know some that are very happy and work for wonderful groups/bosses. Everything is there an available- it's just such a huge company. Unless you know someone who is guiding you, it's hard to take advantage of everything there is to offer.
The benefits are wonderful and very cheap.

    Cons

It's such a giant machine. Got an HR questions- good luck. Everything is "self-service" software that you can't use your back browser on. It's so hard to figure out where anything is. I work remotely, so maybe people in offices can figure things out better.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Workload is manageable compared to startups
    - Reasonable work environment - cafeterias, gym, etc
    - Stable company unlikely to go under
    - Executive management not the easiest to work with, but generally competent

    Cons

    - Antiquated development tooling - although that's changing in several areas now
    - Hub and spoke management model - decisions made pretty high up in the chain
    - Communication with employees on strategy is hit or miss

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Improve strategic communication, have fewer conflicting projects
    - Provide more leeway for opportunity to fail at lower levels - everything shouldn't have to be executive approved

I have been working at Oracle full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Pays tremendously well even for new college hires. Not much pressure to work too hard.

    Cons

Completely stagnant work. Haven't had a single thing to do since starting. The company seems to be doing really well but is extremely inefficient. There's rarely anything to do. At least the Burlington and Santa Clara offices are giant buildings with many offices secluded from each other, making collaboration impossible. The office culture is virtually nonexistent. There are breakrooms everywhere but for some unknown reason, they are stocked with only sugary drinks and tea. Average age is pretty high.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to manage younger employees, have more work, at least attempt to innovate.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The pay is decent and they offer commission if you are in a sales environment. The company is huge so you can potentially stay and the company and progress. It is a virtual company so lots of opportunities to telecommute and most teams are virtual.

    Cons

Oracle does not give raises. You are left to sink or swim. No live person help hardly...everything is self-service. Easy to get lost. Too much information...information overload...emails are not specific to your position or your pillar...so consequently you get every newsletter, etc...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Know your talent. Don't waste your resources. Why would you have a MBA making phone calls all day long? It is a waste of an MBA's skill set and talents.
