    I worked at Oracle

    Pros

Smart, hard working people to learn from. Great Brand name that is good for your resume. Can make a career since company is so large - ca move into different roles

    Cons

Used to be a better place to work when it was smaller. Has become much more political and bureaucratic over time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to consider that there are too many bureaucrats with non value programs just to keep themselves busy.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A relaxed working environment. Very congenial environment for people trying to settle down in a company for a long duration. There are also quite a few teams which work on cutting edge technologies.

    Cons

Things tend to go slow here sometimes, w.r.t both hikes and promotions. You need to fight for what you want. Not a place where you can go and do regular work and expect to get high bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The ratio of young minds to veterans is very low in the upper management. Lot of talented youngsters still lingering way below the hierarchy. Should think about identifying, grooming younger and more talented people and getting them in the mix of upper management.

    Pros

Wonderful when you're loved by beautiful teammates. Its nice when minimums are met. I think we've all been there.

    Cons

You want to avoid picking these up when driving by prisons, euphamistically speaking. Achieve this and all goals -- negative or otherwise -- can be reached.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Webfarming is the future, embrace it.

    Pros

    Good benefits, Stable environment.

    Cons

Little to no pay increases. Work could be mundane (depending on area). Large size also mean slow to innovate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really look into developing your talents. Do not just preach it. Actually do it.

Oracle can be a great place to work. However, it is a mixture of well-run and dysfunctional teams; choose wisely.

I worked at Oracle full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Solid company. Great benefits. Excellent brand recognition. If you are on a team that is well run and isn't faced with internal competition, you have the potential to work in a very collaborative environment where you will be challenged to contribute your best. Expectations are high, but the quality of talent around you is also high. The resources and tools around you are top-notch. You will learn and grow.

    Cons

If you are in a group where there is either internal competition (such as multiple groups doing similar jobs) or a lack of a stable history (constant restructurings, name changes or leadership changes) you may be faced with heavy politics, people throwing others under the bus and a constant worrying of whether your job will continue to exist.

Annual raises have been nonexistent for entire divisions over the last couple of years.

Many people have left and returned to Oracle because that was the only way they would get their fair market value. The company has caught on to this and is heavily discouraging that practice.

    A manage-up culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Disband overlapping job functions once and for all.
Provide annual raises to your top 50% of employees.
    Continue providing excellent benefits.
