I worked at Oracle full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was able to stay in Seattle, and then in Portland, Oregon. This was important to me because my wife left me due to my infidelity- was the one cheating- so I wanted to stay close to my children Pay was about 40% lower than what I made in my next job

    Cons

Constant pressure to shade things in a way that is not Professional Overselling to the customer of services and features they did not need- and do not need to still this Bad planning which was very destructive to personal work life balance

    Advice to Management

Since I was rebuilding my ethical foundation- I noticed things which others were just allowing to slide. Recommending stuff to customers that they do not need, or misrepresenting the quality of a product- I had to do it far more often than I would have liked. Slow is the slide into unethical behavior- Oracle has some great products, and they should concentrate on creating good solutions for their customers.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere most of the time, friendly people from all corners and

    Cons

Must be a self-starter, no initial training or guidance - can be good for some, difficult for most! Difficult to move up or progress with no training or development on the job. Very traditional, slow ethos throughout. Very focused on sales, rather than the infrastructure.

I have been working at Oracle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Like anywhere else, your milage may vary depending on team, but overall I have found Oracle to be a fantastic company to work for. Lots of flexibility and the politics are not too bad compared to many other big companies. - unlimited sick leave is a blessing - compensation is above average

    Cons

    - limited professional development opportunities - budgets for training and conferences is limited - vague / unclear annual review process - bonus structure is sketchy at best

    Advice to Management

A little more transparency on how we are being evaluated and some solid rewards for work well done would be a welcome change. My management has been VERY good and I don't have much to complain about except that I would like to know more about the direction of the company and our projects from time to time.

    Pros

Has a great name. Many groups, so you can move around to different teams easily. Work culture is ok.

    Cons

Work full time in oracle for the last 15 yrs in development and then support. There are no hikes, no bonuses for the last 10 yrs. If you stay on your loyalty is actually a curse.

    Advice to Management

You need to work on making your employees happy and satisfied.
