I have been working at Oracle full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Like anywhere else, your milage may vary depending on team, but overall I have found Oracle to be a fantastic company to work for. Lots of flexibility and the politics are not too bad compared to many other big companies.

    - unlimited sick leave is a blessing
    - compensation is above average

    Cons

    - limited professional development opportunities
    - budgets for training and conferences is limited
    - vague / unclear annual review process
    - bonus structure is sketchy at best

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little more transparency on how we are being evaluated and some solid rewards for work well done would be a welcome change. My management has been VERY good and I don't have much to complain about except that I would like to know more about the direction of the company and our projects from time to time.

    Pros

    Has a great name.
Many groups, so you can move around to different teams easily.
    Work culture is ok.

    Cons

Work full time in oracle for the last 15 yrs in development and then support.
There are no hikes, no bonuses for the last 10 yrs.
If you stay on your loyalty is actually a curse.

    Pros

    Self-starter culture for true entrepreneurials

    Cons

Too much self-service - company has taken way too far. Unfriendly to acquistions and outsiders

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Oracle should become more family friendly and reward risk takers with salary and promotions.

I have been working at Oracle

    Pros

Highly professional work place, surrounded with dedicated and successful people, growing and stable company, challenging work and generally easy going management styles as long as work is performed.

    Cons

The work day and work week sometimes have no ending. Pay is good but not as good as the pay at other comparable companies. Due to size of the company the internal bureaucracy can be stifling. People in lower positions can be difficult to work with because at times they exhibit more of a robotic mindset instead of thinking outside of the box to match a dynamic situation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is a good place to work and the employees understand that point. At the same time, however, most people consider life to be more important than work. This fact should be more readily understood in the workplace. If people are needed to work 7 days a week then perhaps additional workers are needed to absorb the growing workload. The heavy M&A activity can be disrupting to the groups impacted. More training is needed to provide for the transition. Overall, Oracle is a great place to be but not always the most friendly place. Management does a great job in achieving business results but should focus more on the people who are behind those results and their day to day concerns/issues.

Fear-Mongering culture: no place for individual decision making or leadership

I have been working at Oracle

    Pros

    - Strong health benefits
    - Strong focus on bottom line profitability

    Cons

    - Complete management through fear, no decision making enabled at management or field level. All comes from SVP level and above.
    - No internal accountability, individuals are not driven to succeed just to avoid perception of failure which will lead to firing.
    - No risk / reward. "The nail that sticks up, gets hammered down"
    - Extremely compartmentalized organizational approach (no end to end ownership)
    - Very poor / non-existent internal communication, no focus on customer
    - President through VP level very commonly swears incessantly and berates management and field resources in individual meetings (ala. Glengarry Glen Ross). Very disrespectful.

    - Not a company that rewards top performers and dynamic problem solvers, intentionally drive those individuals out of the organization, so they can pay less for wheel-turners.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Build a culture of success, teaming and external competition (vs. internal competition and fear)
    - Delegate down non-strategic decision making to the management / director level.
    - Rationalize titles and pay (wildly different based on acquisitions)

    Cons

They beat the crap out of you. Extremely stressful. The travel is a killer and you cannot get of them. Favoritism and nepotism are rampant. Kissing up the right rear will take you places.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better life work balance and raises/promos should be made more equitable
