    Pros

Extremely smart and motivated people, who work hard and are always willing to help. You will not find a better tech company to work for. Senior management communicates regularly. Very open, supportive, data driven culture. So glad I joined Orbitz.

    Cons

For such a progressive company, why do we have stack rating?

    Advice to Management

Introduce more progressive performance management plan that rewards both team performance and individual performance in driving results.

    Pros

Orbitz is great, even though it's a travel agency, it was a tech. company first. The company has a great culture very similar to the west-coast tech. scene. There are foosball tables and ping pong tables on every floor in case you need a break. Unlimited coffee/espresso drinks, unlimited soda. One thing I thought was phenomenal was the amount of emphasis they put in to training conferences and workshops. I've only been at Orbitz for a month now and I've gone to two workshops off campus and a bunch of Best Practices workshops on campus.

My manager is great, just the right amount of nurturing - they expect you to figure things out on your own, but they are there to support you 100% when you have questions. Right off the bat my manager showed me what career-band I was in and what it would take for me to move up in my career. Everyone is extremely helpful and willing to help each other out.

    Cons

No free food? That's about the only con I can think of...

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! Offer free food please (Or at least free lunch 1x week)

    Pros

Very lean environment, great people and smart on-going projects. Lots to learn on a daily basis.

    Cons

After a while growth, bonuses and salary hikes can be too little to make a difference.

    Pros

The atmosphere is mostly friendly. The people are supportive and helpful when trying to learn a new job. Many people will help you get on your feet quickly in a new role.

    Cons

The project work is lacking because upper management does not hold anyone accountable to dates and deliverables. This holds especially true for cross functional projects.

    Advice to Management

Give people more ownership in their work. But with ownership comes accountability. It's tough but it will make people work harder and feel more pride in their work.

    Pros

The teams here are very focused on getting work done and rapidly innovating. Everyone I work with is on point and carry their projects quickly to completion. If a problem becomes evident then troubleshooting and resolution is the goal - strict deadlines are not a norm - in my experience. It is great - encourages a lot of risk taking!

    Cons

I haven't found any downsides. I am happy with the benefits, the culture, the people and it is radically different from my last job doing the same business function so I am challenged everyday!

    Advice to Management

Keep the focus of people, knowledge, celebrating wins during the transition - many acquisitions lose this and I know that Orbitz hasn't started that yet but acquisitions are tough sometimes so keeping morale and the culture will be key going into the next few years.

    Pros

The company is full of many very smart very seasoned industry leaders. The work life balance is amazing and it is very family friendly.

    Cons

There is not much growth opportunity in this position within the company, and often times the communication to the home based staff is limited.

    Advice to Management

The communication and expectatioms around the company could stand to be a little more uniform and though I feel we are valued I also feel many suggestions go unheard or fall on deaf ears.

    Pros

A unique culture that allows for a laid-back, flat organization -- but at the same time appreciates & rewards hard-work, a positive attitude, and an ability to work at a fast pace. Also a very fair & respectful approach to work/life balance.

    Cons

Very steep learning curve and little training to help along the way for new employees. The organization is also very lean, which makes for short-term challenges when someone changes roles or leaves the company. Also, depending on your role/area of the company, promotional growth could be minimal.

    Advice to Management

Consider removing the week of vacation between x-mas & new year's and giving employees the flexibility to use those days as they need. Surprisingly limited PTO/vacation for a travel company. Also, the paternity/maternity leave policies are significantly behind other tech leaders in the U.S.
