    Pros

    The teams here are very focused on getting work done and rapidly innovating. Everyone I work with is on point and carry their projects quickly to completion. If a problem becomes evident then troubleshooting and resolution is the goal - strict deadlines are not a norm - in my experience. It is great - encourages a lot of risk taking!

    Cons

    I haven't found any downsides. I am happy with the benefits, the culture, the people and it is radically different from my last job doing the same business function so I am challenged everyday!

    Advice to Management

    Keep the focus of people, knowledge, celebrating wins during the transition - many acquisitions lose this and I know that Orbitz hasn't started that yet but acquisitions are tough sometimes so keeping morale and the culture will be key going into the next few years.

    Pros

    Orbitz allows you to be your own leader and supports your innovation along with having a GREAT work life balance, and I feel the leaders at the company truly care about the staff. I love the ability to work from home in my assigned market, it allows me to save travel time and allows me to be highly effective and efficient.

    Cons

    Sometimes I have felt distant from what is happening at the corp. office and that the communication could be better. However the company is trying to improve this.

    In this role there is not a lot of room for growth within the company.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to trust and empower your staff, holding them accountable without micromanaging. It feels that may be the direction the company is moving and it is very demotivating.

    Pros

    A unique culture that allows for a laid-back, flat organization -- but at the same time appreciates & rewards hard-work, a positive attitude, and an ability to work at a fast pace. Also a very fair & respectful approach to work/life balance.

    Cons

    Very steep learning curve and little training to help along the way for new employees. The organization is also very lean, which makes for short-term challenges when someone changes roles or leaves the company. Also, depending on your role/area of the company, promotional growth could be minimal.

    Advice to Management

    Consider removing the week of vacation between x-mas & new year's and giving employees the flexibility to use those days as they need. Surprisingly limited PTO/vacation for a travel company. Also, the paternity/maternity leave policies are significantly behind other tech leaders in the U.S.

    Pros

    The people here are great! So smart and passionate about their work. It really makes the culture. It's not work hard, play hard because the company forces it, but because the employees actually enjoy the work they do here and leadership respects time away from the office. No day is the same - truly. After 3 years I can come in and still make significant changes to impact the company.

    Cons

    No real cons - Orbitz runs at lightning speed. If you are uncomfortable in a fast paced environment or not good with change - this is not the org for you.

    Advice to Management

    Keep it up! Remember be as transparent as possible and don't forget the values which make Orbitz great - collaborative environment, lack of red tape/hierarchy, and the people

    Relatively steep learning curve depending on your role within the company.

    Work at home is frowned upon

    Advice to Management

    I would highly suggest switching to a PTO system that combines vacation and sick days into one bucket. This gives more flexibility to employees who tend to not get sick very often. Most companies either have this type of plan already, or have plans to move towards that type of one bucket plan.
