I have been working at Orc Group full-time

    Pros

Most individual teams are internally friendly, functional and productive. This is particularly true in the Chicago office. The office also has excellent cooperation between the teams there. The company provides good benefits and a good work-life balance.

    Cons

Relations between offices, and some of the teams on an international level, are strained and not highly functional. As a satellite office (even though it's the largest satellite office) Chicago seems to come in very distant second when its needs or input is regarded by HQ.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Solve the disconnects and communication problems between the offices and highest level teams. Take regional needs more seriously.

    Pros

This is good place to get expirience in development and troubleshooting software components. You get a good skills in financial realm either. Here you grow constantly and always participate in many different projects.

    Cons

Sometimes people do their job semi-professionally what is affected the product quality

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention on employee hands-on experience when hiring them especially engineers

    Pros

    Great Benefits
All the free food you can eat
    Great vacation policy

    Cons

    Poor Corporate Management
Sales centric company, not people centric
    Below average increases
    Poor Employee Relations
    Poor Organizational Development
Only high commission earners receive salary increases

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Corporate Management needs to focus outside of Sweden and look to give support to their other subsidiaries, get rid of micro-managers.

I have been working at Orc Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The working conditions, hours, and environment are all excellent. The benefits (healthcare, lunch, gym membership, vacation days) are all second to none. It's a fantastic environment.

    Cons

The company lacks direction and a will to grow. They've essentially stayed the same throughout my time there. New products target the same customers as before. It can become a very static place without the opportunity to see new things or grow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a strategy and communicate it!

I have been working at Orc Group

    Pros

Orc is a community of people who care about the software and service they provide, but who care just as much about the people around them. The services team works as hard as anyone I've seen, and the level of competence and experience is satisfying.

    Cons

At times, information and authority is fragmented... but that seems to be a byproduct of the company's large geographical coverage for a relatively small number of people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mine the organization for information... there is a ton of collective experience, and it friction to its information moving up the chain. Actively seek out everyone's advice, and you may gain some interesting (and rewarding) perspectives.

I have been working at Orc Group full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Free schedule, very wide variety of technologies used, very unusual products (like in-house implementation of Cocoa for Windows)

    Cons

Bad and slow management, inability to change/use old frameworks and legacy code efficiently. Sticking to very unusual solution (client can run both Windows and Macs) requires very unusual specialists (experienced in both Cocoa and Windows API), same can be said for the backend.

I have been working at Orc Group full-time

    Pros

Everyone in the company has a voice that gets heard.
A chance to work with intelligent, stimulating, friendly people
A great mix of financial and technical skill sets make this an exciting environment to work in.

    Cons

    Challenging times in this sector.
To get far and grasp a wide understanding can mean working long hours and investing lots of time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in developing the product offering with a long term outlook.
