    Pros

Easy-going tempo, understanding management, decent amount of hours.

    Cons

Shady moments when it wasn't your fault but it seems to get pinned on you. High expectations sometimes for very little reward.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advancement or training within the company is not very straight forward and difficult to obtain despite motivation and requests. Make mobility or acquisition of product knowledge to be more attainable if interest is shown.

    Pros

Opportunity to learn about different aspects of a hardware store

    Cons

Not enough employees to assist with the needs of the customers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Like most businesses, management never seeks the opinions of employees on how to make the operation run more efficiently.

    Pros

promoted to full time w/in a week. No problem getting hours.

    Cons

Understaffed, Low pay for amount of work. Company does not look out for employees. Prides itself on customer service yet all they care about is signups. Company is blinded and so is management. No wonder the company got bought out. Toxic work environment and no teamwork. Cutthroat environment.

    Pros

The best part of working here would likely be the discount. It's better than Home Depot (as confirmed by a friend who works there) and fairly significant when you use it during sale times.
Depending on management, it can also be fairly laid-back. But see cons on atmosphere...

    Cons

Management can be utterly terrible. The one good manager I had at my first store ended up defecting to a different hardware brand because the store manager was so overbearing. Management at a different store was significantly better, but I've heard most aren't this good.
Pay isn't great, and they ask you to work way more than you'd expect out of a part-time minimum wage job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back off the Club Rewards program; if customers don't have it by now, they don't want it.

New manager destroying what previous manager built.

    Pros

Great coworkers. Great customers. Now great stock levels and getting better. Not as much crappy merchandise as under previous leadership. Working towards getting more "Made in USA" products.

    Cons

Previous manager spent about 2 years establishing a top end store. One that was awarded Store of the Year, top performer in Club Orchard sign ups. Following a complete transformation of the store Corporate transferred the manager to another store and brought in a manager from a poor performing store. The new manager came it Orchard with a group that came from another company that had all but destroyed the whole chain yet they are still in the mix doing the same things as before that ended with them filing bankruptcy. Hoping that the CEO opens his eyes and removes these guys and then brings in management that improves moral. The store has loss many good employees and sales are slumping in a time when we should be excelling.

This manager offered employees a promotion with responsibilities of over seeing other associates without fully investigating the employees current salaries and offered them less then what they were currently making. Then has cut these employees hours because they turned him down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Educate your managers as to prevailing wages, how to write a proposed promotion include responsibilities and wages that meet employees new responsibilities and don't allow them to retaliate if turned down by cutting their hours. CEO needs to look at store performance and take a closer look at Store Managers and their backgrounds.

    Pros

Top management portrayed a positive outlook after Lowe's acquired OSH as a subsidiary. A few friendly employees made coming into the office rewarding.

    Cons

Communication can be muddled at times, with the same goal not being expressed throughout the organization. Teams work in silos and are not aware of what other teams have implemented (and vice-versa). OSH's main computer system is extremely outdated (circa early 1990s...think DOS), making it difficult to run reports and finish work efficiently. One has to re-learn to go backwards in time, which

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
