  • Great location, atmosphere, and colleagues; beautiful campus, excellent learning opportunities (in 8 reviews)

Cons
  • The only real con I'd suppose is that I couldn't stay here forever, but they need room for more graduate students (in 6 reviews)

  • Did a lot of good work for low pay, its unfortunate considering how much money my research brought in for the school how little pay I received (in 3 reviews)

I have been working at Oregon State University

    Pros

The office culture is great. Everyone is great and there is a lot of growth potential. Another benefit I might add is the flexibility. Being a student, it's sometimes hard to commit to certain number of hours a week so it's nice because they will work around your schedule.

    Cons

Working on football gamedays is somewhat of a con however, this was discussed prior to taking the position so it's not like it was a surprise.

I worked at Oregon State University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The campus is very beautiful, quiet, people are cooperative, some departments are very good, faculty and staff are friendly. Social science related programs usually have a good atmosphere around working place.

    Cons

Compensation for graduate students depends on the college and program, overall it's good but some departments overuse and do not respect graduate employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set clear time-off policies for graduate employees.

    Pros

The best job on campus. Opportunities to work with the most interesting people on campus and opportunities to grow and teach everyday.

    Cons

Some patrons are very difficult and reluctant to work on their own bikes. Could benefit from a better structure of work hours and scheduling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Additional training and networking could improve teamwork on the job.

Former Employee - Graduate Research Assistant in Corvallis, OR

I worked at Oregon State University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Research can be interesting, if you are on a good project. Campus is nice and corvallis is a reasonable affordable place to live, although costs are increasing.

    Cons

Graduate research assistants are at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to university employees. If the PI is not running an efficient and highly productive laboratory you may get stuck as a poorly compensated graduate student for much longer than you expected. In the life sciences, the post graduate career outlook is quite poor and is getting worse (at least according to the NSF and personal experience).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve programs and training opportunities to help graduate students better transition into the job market.

    Negative Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
