I worked at Oscar de la Renta as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Oscar made an effort to say hi to all of the design interns everyday he came through the office which made us feel like we were really apart of the team. My boss was extremely delightful and flexible with my work hours.

    Cons

Opportunities for advancement seemed to be somewhat political. Most employee's work late into the night because they are extremely devoted to their work, which can be seen as an extended commitment for those who want to be able to go 'offline' when they leave the work place.

You are given the opportunity to work by hand, to cut and drape and to make patterns. This will give you ample experience in designing and even in embroidery.

    Cons

Very long hours, Not friendly environment, a consistently stressful atmosphere where you might miss meals in the process of getting things done. a lack of communication and trust between design teams.

I have been working at Oscar de la Renta

    Pros

    The clothing is simply exquisite.

    Cons

You work long hours and are not compensated neither with enough money nor appreciation. Your personal life is of little to no importance. The employee turnover rate is, frankly, shocking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your employees are the reason the company is running. Treat them with compassion and respect. Show them at least the minimal level of appreciation.

    Pros

It was a great internship experience to break into the fashion industry. Having Oscar de la Renta on my resume helped get me interviews at other companies.

Even though I often completed tedious tasks, my supervisors always showed their appreciation for my help.

I worked at Oscar de la Renta as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

I loved the work and all of my coworkers. It was a great atmosphere with a lot of learning opportunity.

    Cons

I had to wait up to 5 months to get my freelancing checks. If you are looking to pay rent or eat with what you earn there, might not be the place for you. The money will come but it will take a lot of badgering.
