Pros
The organization is filled with talented, knowledgeable senior engineers. Great place to learn and grow. Its a very stable company leading a mature industry that's not going anywhere.
Cons
Average compensation focused on inflation and severe cuts in benefits have left less of a reason to stay around at the company.
Pros
The company is reputable.
Guys are great to work with.
Terrific pay and benefits.
Love the job.
Cons
Managment has an ax to grind with their associates. They seem to hate them probably, because of their Union pay and benefits. They literally try to screw them out of every benefit there is. They don't do this to their favorites however. Many guys don't say anything because they are afraid of being laid off or retaliated against by being transfered far from home. The Union reps should visit sites more and catch whats going on so the guys aren't the ones retaliated against. Managment is totally and utterly shameful.
Advice to Senior Management
What could be so wrong with treating your associates ethically and honorably? This is exactly why Unions are needed. When work picks up and lay-offs not so feared, union activity will likely increase and rightfully so. Not out of spite but because it is deserved.
Pros
They used to have good benefits and were relatively safe from layoffs. The co-workers are great.
Cons
Teamwork has been tossed aside. Company morale is extremely low. Leadership is based on the concept that "no one is more royal than the king", as one senior manager put it.
Processes that should address these issues exist, but are so pie-in-the-sky that they cannot succeed. Results from employee surveys are spun to fit expectations. Those that can't be spun in a positive manner are solved by either adding on more required training, or rewording the surveys the next time.
An example may illustrate the atmosphere: someone complained that the US flag outside the building either needed to be taken down at night, or illuminated if left up. The solution was to cut down the flagpole. I'm not kidding.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend some time in the worker's shoes, like "Undercover Boss".
Put people in charge of groups who understand that group. Skills do matter - you can't put any old MBA in charge of any group.
Stop the stepping stone mentality. Managers should have to stay in position a minimum of say, 5 years, to learn the job requirements, build a team and get a culture in place. Constantly changing managers is one of the worst things you can do to an organization.
Make improving morale a priority. Talk to people rather than send out yet another employee survey conducted by a third party.
Delegate authority along with responsibility. No one can make all the decisions for 60 people. Yes, you are still responsible for everything they do or fail to do, but that's part of the job. If you don't like it, get out.
Pros
Large global company, lots of extra benifits
Cons
poor management, poor communication, very poor merit increases for top performers
Advice to Senior Management
You preacher transpanancy, however, you hide facts and figures.
Pros
I enjoyed working with some pretty talented and nice people. I worked with the Union elevator guys and they were thoughtful, kind and appreciated office support and office liasions for administrative needs.
Cons
Mangement was pigeon holed cowards. They are stuck in the 80's thinking that the world still believes in the good ole boy network which limits technical advancement and new way of thinking. When i left and worked for other major companies I was surprised with all the advancedments available to do one's job. The local office is so behind the time and because the political game is so big you spend unnecessary time worrying if you are on the right team. Their smart people are insulted through isolation and the dummies run the place with silly social alliances.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to really seek out real diversity training from the outside. Think outside the box. Allow differences not to become bad. remember people like Steve Jobs. You might be missing your greatest invention.
Pros
Wonderful co-workers and environment on the local level; good pay and benefits.
Cons
Huge disconnect between the average worker and upper management; communication is terrible. Top management has no interest in employee input. Despite annual employee satisfaction surveys, required ethics training and the appearance of open communication, sadly it is all propoganda - the spirit of ethics, communication and employee value do not exist.
Pros
Good employee benefits and a reputable company. Basically, the company have good policies in place.
Cons
High emphasis on short term gains/profits. Sacrificing premium service to meet business targets. Many in management lacked leadership qualities.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember that it is the front line employees and middle management who gives you the result. Headcount reduction should be implemented fairly across the board. Close to 100% of bottom line employees performs (because those who does not gets 'chopped') but how many percent at the top really performs?
Pros
They have a great benefit package
Cons
The manager was great a paper work but horrible at leading so other ladies in the office did his job judging job performance and leading. He was a coward and they were power trippers.
Advice to Senior Management
The branch manager should retire and play golf.
Pros
the work time is 8 hour a day
Cons
salary is not great now in xiziotis
Pros
ITS A RECOGINSED AND WELL RESPECTED COMPANY , I have had a great deal of experience working there and would do it again if asked
Cons
The salary is not fantastic ,there is not much opportunity for progression and they dont have a culture of diversity
Advice to Senior Management
Improve your diversity straregies , pay more attention to junior employees and there should be a great deal of encouragement of self development
