    Revolving door with fundamental problems

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGet to work with some of the best analysts in the business. The coworkers and most clients are awesome. Virtual offices. Unlimited time off, if you can ever use it.

ConsManagement says great things during recruitment, about all the new directions the firm is taking. The reality is they will try to bolt big ideas onto something rotten. They overpromise clients and recruits, and then berate employees into doing the work, without ever investing in the tools to deliver.

They usually just fire good people when the disfunction becomes too obvious, and bring in someone new who will soon be fired in turn. Ideas are good, the people are very smart, but the leadership does not appreciate what it takes to execute. At this point the smartest analysts in the world can not save them from poor business practices.

Doesn't help that the senior leadership are also mean people. They frequently belittle and verbally abuse each other and their employees. Overall not the best place to advance a career.

Advice to Senior ManagementPretty hopeless as long as this management is still the management.

Like playing game where the rules change along with the goal without notice.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThe company is 90% virtual with only the co-founders and back-office located at the HQ in CA. All of the analysts are very intelligent and at the top of their game as analysis goes. The company is also highly respected by the company's clients.

ConsThe CEO and her husband are the co-founders and are also micro-managers that will come up with a plan, start down a road, and then without notice, change direction. They then won't explain why they're going that way and it would be unwise to ask. Analysts are expected to be part of the sales process, though this is not clearly explained when you're interviewing or in the first few months so if you're looking for an analyst only position, this is definitely not the place for you. The bottom line is the bottom line here.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou may want to take a look at why there is such a high turnover rate. When a twenty year old company has only a handful of long term - more than two years - employees, you have to start to consider that the management is the problem.

Wow: things are bad - and will get worse. Be wary of CEO and HR-Head!

Vice President Analyst (Former Employee) New York, NY

ProsThe thematic scope of the firm is great. Its potential could be superb.
Some good folks still work there. Flexible working hours. Pretty ok salary.

Conssignificant hire and fire - Check LinkedIn for many folks that came and are gone (often made gone). The quality of the management is really bad - the culture too - the research processes and many other processes are broken - many things are unlogical - and outright unethical - they are trying so hard to keep clients, that they essentially write 10x more frequently about clients than non-clients - this is ugly. Little collaboration means that the research quality is poor.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere is so much to say - it would fill books:
fix the research process, stop firing people, embrace collaboration, spend money on having people meet and think and learn from each other. Don't squeeze the firm so hard.

Instable, unsustainable and incompatible to marketplace

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Burlingame, CA

ProsVirtual Office, talented co-workers, wonderful but fleeing client base

ConsTerrible top down approach from management to the point of being aggressively abusive.
Do not believe a thing they mention on their website about company values - rubbish - especially when they are recruiting for openings. It's a boat load of misguided information to the point of lying on the reality of how business is actually conducted internally.
HR staff is literally a joke. Knowledge and skill set is next to none. Would have a very difficult time finding work elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementTime to drop the ball and learn how to respect, be honest and show some empathy toward your employees. Most of the real talent has already left. I do not believe there is much value left in business (market share/margins/revenue in decline mode). Burn some rubber and do not look back.

Proceed with Caution....then run in the opposite direction

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsVirtual Office
Great colleagues - co-workers are intelligent, friendly and helpful
Some of the clients are wonderful to work with

Cons- Senior management seems to have lost all touch with reality
    - Senior Management interact with the company in a harsh manner bordering on cruel and abusive
    - Senior management have no sense of where their value lies - neither in terms of their people (who actually does what) or their products (how the work is actually done)

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit being so mean. You'll get sued for it one day. Spend some time remembering where your truly value lies both in terms of your people and your products

    Be wary!

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Burlingame, CA

ProsVirtual office environment, talented and smart colleagues, interesting market & clients

ConsFounder owned company run by husband & wife who blame everyone but themselves - employees, technology, even clients - for things that don't go the way they believe they should. Lack of coherent strategy, emphasis all on sales rather than product development and infrastructure. Some senior management use humiliating, abusive and demeaning language and tactics with more junior employees. Overall feeling of instability which is ok in a start-up but not in a company that's been around for over a decade.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell and get out in whatever way you can - you've had a good run, time to move on, take respnsibility, and stop abusing your employees.

    Quality output but terrible management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsVirtual Office; Intelligent and thoughtful analysts and staff; fast pace; Can be on cutting edge of certain trends in publishing and information industry

ConsExtremely high level of turnover; due to overworked employees but even more so due to to harsh and unpleasant management style, bordering on the mean. Often irrational reactions from top people in organization. Too bad since it attracts super sharp people but most leave very quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease look at the comments here and your turnover and see that the problem is not with the employees but the structure of the firm and how it treats people. Need some kind of intervention from an honest outsider you trust and will listen to before it is too late.
