I have been working at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Finally converted over to EPIC online patient records system

    Cons

Strongly political. Leadership dislike thinking in a business mode resulting in poor discussions. Out of touch CEO recently announced retirement after Hospital failed to make yearly financial goals. Hospital feels adrift with no focus as replacement has yet to be identified.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You don't have to give up being good Dr and Nurses to also be a lucrative business. The hospitals that do will survive.

I have been working at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Small local hospital, you get to do lots of different things.

    Cons

Management lacks vision. They do not have proper succession planning. The decision to go to Epic was great, but the project was not managed correctly. It will be very difficult for them to survive in the current healthcare environment.

I have been working at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits, responsible management.

    Cons

Because they are a private, non-profit hospital, the bottom line is very important - staffing can occasionally be 'lean' - they run a tight ship just to keep the doors open.

I have been working at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Solid benefits and comparable compensation.

    Cons

Many "lifer" management and staff w/o perspective outside of Overlake.
    Dated hierarchical organization and culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Is your operating model and strategy tenable? The trend in healthcare is scale and consolidation. Overlake is the only independent in WA, surrounded by much bigger systems growing in scale.

I have been working at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Overlake has been a positive working environment for me. The people are very caring and have been a joy to work with. It is a company that cares about being fair and works hard to create a positive experience for there employees.

    Cons

It is a company that is forced to run very lean to survive in a very challenging healthcare environment. Many of the extra perks have been cut and medical benefits have increased throughout the years.

I have been working at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and great coworkers. Excellent patient care.

    Cons

Very low pay compared to other hospitals in the area, and not much room for advancement. PTO bank leaves little room for sick days if you plan a yearly vacation. Most upper level administrative jobs are given to nurses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward employees with merit based pay raises, rather than an across the board low COL adjustment. Match pay scale to Swedish.

I worked at Overlake Medical Center and Clinics part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It was a great work environment and most of the staff is very friendly. I floated between many units as a PCT and most of the time was welcomed and able to get along with everyone.

    Cons

Slow to change on the most current best medical practice. Still using paper charting... and the doctors take the charts throughout the day shift which makes it hard for RN's and PCT's to go back and remember what to chart. Still taking temperatures in the ear... not best practice. And some of the nurses there have been there so long they are lazy and get away with it because of seniority when new nurses are running their butts off and getting hassled for little insignificant things.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get to know your staff, most importantly the managers and make more of a presence and open to hearing from actual staff members like nurses and techs who have valid concerns.
