    Pros

Nice town, great and convenient location.

    Cons

Terrible and flawed grading system. Poor collegial relations amongst faculty. No support for junior faculty. Lots of false promises. Unfair and excessive workload unless you are a Reader/Professor. Money talks. Nobody cares.

    Advice to Management

    Wouldn't bother.

I have been working at Oxford University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The tutorial systems are something you don't get any experience of elsewhere. The social life is also great, provided you have time. It opens the door to a lot of networking and careers events, you just have to capitalise on that on your time here

    Cons

Constant essay crisis, meaning that you alternate between crying and drinking and procrastinating. There truly is a lot of work involved and far more than other universities

    Pros

The summer school has a great ethos, the staff try really hard to make it enjoyable for the students, and it often re-hires people to do the summer school again the following year.

    Cons

The summer school week was intense and probably not for everyone, but I personally enjoyed it- it went very quickly! We were given some online training for the summer school, which although a bit repetitive, did include some valuable information concerning the responsibilities of the role.

  9. Well established and a good name to work for

I have been working at Oxford University as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Well funded and equipped research setting where almost anything becomes possible due to the massive amount of money and connections that come with working here. Lots of bright and committed colleagues which can really help push research forward.

    Cons

Individual experience depends on your direct manager. Work-life balance is probably as bad as in any world leading research centre. Very difficult to get a permanent position. The salary is not in line with living costs, it should really come with a London style weighting as rents and house prices are considerably higher than the UK average.

    Pros

Incredible city to spend 4 years in. The college system is a great experience, plenty of social activities even during my PhD. Great lifestyle. My studentship provided a generous stipend. As a student or member of staff here you have access to an extensive range of facilities across the university, not to mention the faculty and post-doctoral researchers working here. There are excellent external speakers too.

    Cons

Work-life balance can lean heavily towards work but that's personal and would be the same anywhere of comparable calibre. How much this is "enforced" will vary between labs, mine was fairly relaxed. Some Oxford rules are archaic but this can also be amusing.
