    Pros

Good working environment, Good flexible times, fair pay, ability to work from home. Very family friendly, but this depends on the line manager. Ability to work with diverse clients and gather a lot of experience in a short time. Its a respected company so very easy to get jobs in other companies after having worked here.

    Cons

Favouritism, lack of Meritocracy. Too many meetings, very slow decision making cycle. Lots of people are in positions they should not be. The mentality, they think every problem can be solved by exporting to excel. Technologically stagnant company, spends millions on Oracle products and other software suites that they barely use, the same work could have been done with MySQL or PostgresSQL easily. After working here for 6 months I realised that management has absolutely no clue, and always do firefighting instead of strategic planning and iterative development. Lack of trust limits the ability of enthusiastic employee to demostrate solutions that require thinking outside of Parexel Box. The list can go on and on. Basically work here, for a while and move on you wont do yourself a favour if you stay too long.

    Advice to Management

You need vision. Open source is not evil. Introduce culture of Meritocracy. The Performance Based Culture which is the current theme doesnt work. The only thing that is seen company wide is lack of performance.

    Pros

Generally flexible with time off and great health insurance if you are able to make it to full time status within the company. If you can find someone who actually will take the time to explain things to you there is the potential to learn a lot in a short amount of time, but this can be very difficult if you are starting entry level with the current structure.

    Cons

Where do I start? Most employees at my site were very frustrated on a daily basis because of a lack of accountability within departments as well as roles that are not clearly defined in responsibility despite the mountain of regulations and operating procedures they have set up. I witnessed a lot of questionable ethics during my time there that made me question what is actually being delivered to the clients. Overall they are trying to execute too many projects with an inefficient system that no one is ever able to stop and fix, the mentality seems to be "whatever we just need data" and then when something goes wrong everyone knows its because there aren't enough staff or enough training but the blame game starts up. Smart people who can handle the workload get frustrated by staff who they are making up for and end up leaving because the pay is just not worth it in the end. Actually understanding what is expected of you can be very difficult because they let clients ask for way more than is originally written up contracts so these extra tasks get shifted until someone (anyone) is able to complete them. Good luck actually getting merit-based raises or bonuses in most of the positions here, they may be promised to you but I witnessed many people have the promises broken. Managers are often less educated than the individuals they are in charge of and have way too many responsibilities to handle outside of being line managers to be effective leaders within their departments. This company is so broken which is really unfortunate because there is a lot of potential. I just never got the sense that they respect their employees. If you interview here be very cautious and realize that even if you ask smart questions during your interview you might be lied to or presented with an overly optimistic answer. The company culture varies between people who have forged friendships out of frustration and people who want nothing to do with the company outside of work. The turnover rate is really high for a reason and if you are deciding between opportunities pick the other one.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to listen to employees bringing up concerns, don't be afraid to escalate problems to people above you instead of acting like you have everything under control.

    Pros

They have good benefits and there are some good people. I like the international aspect of the company.

    Cons

Systems, processes, SOPs, and guidelines are bulky, hard to understand, and they are not efficient or effective. Every task seems to take three to four times as long at PXL, than other CROs. This has been given as a reason for the coming layoffs, which are at least the 2nd round of layoffs in less than 2 years. It seems that rather than looking at WHY people are having trouble with the systems and processes, they would rather lay people off and ship jobs overseas to save money. The site management team members seem to feel very adversarial toward each other and I have had team members be downright rude, un-business-like and mean-spirited with no censure. All team members are not treated the same. Upper management does not listen to other team members, even ones with a lot of experience.

    Advice to Management

Evaluate all your systems and processes and look at what is working and not working. Seriously consider changing the study start up system. That is where the main problems are coming from and where a majority of frustration is stemming from.

    Pros

great learning place for life sciences domain. Great senior leadership.

    Cons

The belief is that to have absolute accountability with one person, all relevant people should line report into that person's organization. This leads to lot of silos across. It limits career growth and reduces productivity.

    Advice to Management

reduce silos to provide more growth opportunities

    Pros

great benefits, LM, COL, great CRAs and CMAs. Have a good team approach

    Cons

Middle management always trying to justify their jobs by "brainstorming" to come up with "new" ideas. This just is BS and bogs down the entire system. Upper management could care less about the CRA/CMA/COL - they only care about the bottom line. Management needs to listen and learn from the people "in the field".

    Advice to Management

ASK LISTEN LEARN You have great CRA/CMA/COL who really care about quality work. We get no support from management - they don't want to hear about problems or even solutions, they only care about the bottom line. And we don't get bonuses for all our hard work!
