I have been working at PATTON STATE HOSPITAL full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The hospital is therapy-oriented and the clinicians truly care about their patients. There is always some opportunity for growth and development no matter who you are or what area you are working in.

    Cons

The facility is incredibly large and resources are hard to find unless you know someone who knows someone else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There should be more of an orientation to the facility other than the very short NEO that is held for a week. There should be more time behind the fence during orientation while still in training to orient the new employees.

I have been working at PATTON STATE HOSPITAL as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

These place offers great opportunities to expand their learning and has many opportunities to work on different taskstasks. definitely recommend.

    Cons

When applying to this facility its a long process, bit well worth it. They offer better pay then other several facilities, although they do require experience and dedication.

I worked at PATTON STATE HOSPITAL full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Over all Good working experience. You learn how to toughen up and be more assertive as a person. The majority of staff are good and you learn how to work with the mentally patients. It depends on the group or staff you are working with on your unit.

    Cons

Work 6 days on 2 days off. Schedule rotates. You get 3 days off on your 4th and 5th week. You become burnt out too easily. Training is not the best except for Tsi defense training and CPR. New transfers and employees are placed on units with very bad patients. Luckily you can post off to a new unit after one year. Some staff members act worse then the patients they take care of. No advancement unless you are well liked, have a relative in a admin position,or highly ambitious and cut throat. Some bad employees are rewarded with am positions and weekends off when it takes over 10 years to get there for the average employee. Nepotism is extremely high and some are quite corrupt. Nearly impossible now to get in and work here. If you leave do not expect to get back in any time soon because of lantern an transfers and transfers from other hospitals. If you question certain staff then expect to be ganged up on and bullied by certain peers. Best to keep your mouth shut and stay out of their personal business. If you are a young attractive female or male then expect certain people ( patients and staff ) to focus and stock you. Some staff here are so gross and will try to hit on and sleep with you and they don't care if you are dating single or married .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. They are set in their ways and could care less about you to began with.
