A wonderful opportunity to be my own boss and make a difference in my community.

I worked at PAX Program of Academic Exchange as a contractor

    Pros

A great freelance job if you do not live in a major city. There are great opportunities to travel and for the most part, the kids and families I worked were happy.

    Cons

If the kid and family don't get along, that creates challenges and the pay may not justify the amount of work involved. Dealing with teenagers, there is always the risk that they will do something stupid and you have to help clean up their mess.

    Pros

Intelligent and friendly co-workers; you can come in late as long as you get your work done; generous PTO; overall pleasant office atmosphere.

    Cons

Very intense schedule between the months of May and September; limited options for career advancement; can be very draining with supervision cases.

Good company, but not a lot of mobility

I worked at PAX Program of Academic Exchange as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great travel benefits and got to meet and work with a lot of diverse people. Host families and students are great for the most part, flexible hours, work from home.

    Cons

The pay is low compared to the hours I put in and not all families and students are easy to work with. There has definitely been some difficult challenges.

    Recommends
