  1. As a contractor I had the ability to make a little or a lot of money, and I could work whenever I wanted. Awesome!

    Pros

Flexible schedule. Very nice people. Better pay than most writing jobs. The leadership has experience, and they know a lot of people that can help you get additional contract jobs.

    Cons

Nothing significant really. Sometimes it was difficult to meet a strict and important deadline for a column, but the quality pay was worth it in the end!

    Advice to Management

I have no advice to management. I am and was rather satisfied with the ability to manage work and life as a contractor. They couldn't do too much to improve the quality of work.

    Pros

yes they go through all attachments that u might need in the future and ofcourse if you buy them, u do get discount and second best prices cant be beaten on prices

    Cons

staffs a bit too pushy i mean its not that if they emphasise a alot on a particular product but yea they do alot on there care plan yes it has its features but still at the end its an optional care plan

    Advice to Management

yes its not that every customer would buy insurance so stop rating or measuring your staff on such a harsh basis as the area managers put a massive amount of pressure on store managers to make there staff insurance on 40% on every sale or get kicked out!! not good policy

    Pros

Good management, great colleagues and a really good place to work. I meet really nice people on a daily basis, and I have a chance of helping people when they need it.

    Cons

Hard environment to enjoy as we have targets to meet.

    Advice to Management

Offer more than criticism and you will get more from your team.

I have been working at PC World

    Pros

    good management
    Good Bonuses around Christmas time
Good social events and team building days
Good atmosphere between everyday staff and peers
Skies the limit if you can sell

    Cons

    hard to progress
The company survives only because of its warrenty product and pressure to sell this is very high
Management lack the ability to motivate their staff
Talent / Innovation isn't appreciated nor encouraged
Poor relationships between management and staff especially during tougher trading times of the year
Company suffers from poor customer relations and can be almost an embarrassment to work for sometimes
Good management are keen to leave or get headhunted to other firms (2 of my former managers got head hunted)
    Training just doesn't happen, ever.

    Advice to Management

Concentrate on improving staff motivation and retention, there's a reason that your always losing your best staff. Provide better training particularly on newer products.

    Pros

If you like a fast paced retail environment dealing with Customers and selling the latest techy products and all the accessories then you'll love it!

    Cons

Not much structure. Often pressured into selling products. Unrealistic KPI's. Inconsistent training. Only real way to learn is to try on your own, mess up and hope someone spots it. Policies in place mean difficult conversations with customers. If your good then your expected to do everything, even if this task is way above your pay grade!. (As a customer service advisor i have had to run the store for weeks at a time, commit the payroll, generate rotas and even sacked someone before).
More in the last 5 years there have been experiences where if you sell a 1 or 2 laptops with no extras (although this may just a be a blip in your day) you end up being told not to sell anything else that may affect figures that day and shoved on a till or smaller areas.

    Advice to Management

Allow time for new starters to learn. I appreciate you may have customers waiting but all you are going to do is give those waiting customers an even worse service if the advisor doesn't know what they are doing.
Also don't be afraid to jump on a till once in a while! They employees don't have 8 arms. We can only do so many things at once.

    Pros

Seemed like honest emloyer, "We pay a flat wage without comission, Your performance will be measured by your ability to sell and making sure the customer gets the right product.." The training opportunities sound great. And they allowed me to show i could sell prouducts as part of the interview.

    Cons

Really not sure how honest they want me to be after all they obviously want me to make them money.

    Advice to Management

bonuses based on sales would help motivate staff without making them chase comission.
